Questions for reviewer:

Does the cheerleader/basketball player combination work for the CD cover? I'm trying to attract junior high and high school students with the party theme, but I'm not sure if the confetti is too much. Does the title "Teen Dance Mix 2007" restrict my audience to teens or is this title effective by drawing in the teens to the image of parties and sports? I chose the colors orange and black because they are hot and edgy colors and this is supposed to be a "hot" compilation. I would like to know if the font on the back cover and the colors overall are right for the image and if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks!

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 18:07

I like your idea for the cd. On the front of it instead of having a basketball player or cheerleader, could you possibly find two people dancing and still have them in black/faded out? With having the sporty type on the front, it gives me the impression of a pre-game music jam (not exactly sure if this is what you are going for or not). I also think you should keep the title of "Teen" in there. It tells you what age group you are going for and tells a little bit more about the music. I like your choice of colors and the photo on the back is unique.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 18:48

The back cover has a pretty neat design. The photo's might be a little too abstract because it's kind of hard to tell what's going on. It's a cool idea though.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:03

There are a few things that I might change. First, I think you need to make the front and back covers relate to each other more. Try using repetition of the same elements on the front to the back. Second, I would consider using a font that is less decorative for the song titles, they are a bit hard to read. In terms of the title, I think that it will restrict it to just teens...maybe just use "Dance Mix 2007". Other than that things look good and I like the idea.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:04

I like the idea and the images that you chose for this project. You might want to make the back image a little less abstract/busy just to make it more closely match the image on the front, but I like how you played around with the colors. It makes it very unique. Another suggestion might be to change the font of the songs on the back, because they are a little hard to read. Overall, it's a really good start through, and it's a great idea for the project.

Questions for reviewer:

Does the CD cover/CD name cause curiosity? The idea behind the CD packaging is a little strange, so I am hoping to at least get people interested enough to pick up the CD and see what is on it. Is there anything else you'd want to see on the front or back?

For those that listen to rock music: Are the front and back pictures too calm for the songs that are on the CD or rock in general? I will probably be adding more pictures on an inside booklet, but I may swap out which pictures are on the outside.

Thanks for any insight you can give!

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 18:07

I like both the photo and choice of font chosen. The photo on the front and the back, although not the same, but very similar tie the cd together. I have not heard all the songs listed on the back, but knowing a few I think the mood is set and it goes together nicely. On the front I might move the title down away from the top to give it a little more spacing and on the back I would just shrink down your font a little so that track number 4 isn't as close to the edge. As a suggestion, possibility think about putting the title of the song first with the singing group underneath it on a new line and make the size of the font of the song bigger than the artist.

S.Weisser

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 20:33

I really like the title to the CD but I don't really feel like the background images coincide very well with the genre of music. They seem a little soft for the rock genre. I like the font type for the title but feel you need to differentiate fonts on the back cover. The titles of the songs do not stand out as much because they are scrunched together and the title font size is the same as the artist. The contrast between the background images and font color is very sharp and catchy so good job with that!

C. Obergfell

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 00:03

I like how it looks. It feels way to calm given the type of music on it.
I think you might want to spread the song list out more. You may also want to make some font distinction between the song title and the author.

trutherf | Sun, 2007-03-18 18:05

Questions for Reviewer:
Does the cover look very generic, if so what looks odd about it? Also does the back clash with the front any? The CD package is targeted toward athletes and athletic fans, does this complete its mission or does something need to change? If yes, then what? Would a sports theme in the background be better than the two little pictures? I also attached my backup for this later choice(COVER2). Thanks

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 20:37

I really like the pictures for the cover2 and back. You know just from looking at it that it is sports themed music. My only thing with the front cover is that the line above the title does not have enough contrast. The white color sort of blends into the background. For the back cover, you may want to use a more interesting font or something that shows the difference between the song title and the artists such as bold or italics.

Sports fans will definately want to check out your CD.

C. Obergfell

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 00:10

I really like cover 2. The top line is a little hard on the eyes so you should try and increase the contrast.
Cover 1 is all right. I really don't like the color choice.
The back is good but I don't think it really goes with either front.
I would recommend keeping cover 2 and finding a new image for the back.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 10:12

The text on cover2 is hard to read. I like the back though. Not to sure of the colors used on the borders. They look out of place. The first cover does look odd, but thats because all of the whitespace and the fact that the images are just randomly placed. More use of alignment would help it though.

ersimpso's picture
ersimpso | Sun, 2007-03-18 22:22

What do people think about the cover picture?
Is is too cartoony? Should I use plain theatre curtains instead? Any tips on how to set up the title? I hate using plain text because it makes it look unprofessional? What can I use to make a professional looking title? How do I work the Microsoft Word Templates? I tried setting it up on that first but I couldn't figure it out.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 21:41

I am not sure what you mean when you say plain theatre curtains, but I would choose an image that correlates to the image on the back. The front is very red/blue/purple while the back is completely yellow/black/white. I would change one of the images so that the colors on both sides correlate to each other.

Try downloading a cool font for the title if you don't want plain text, there are a ton of them out there for free on the web that are easy to find.

Looks pretty good so far.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 11:52

I think the cover would benefit from an image that looked more like the back image. What I mean by that is an image that is on a life size scale and looks like a real theatre. I got the feeling from the cover image that it is maybe a puppet theatre size (something like that).

For the title you might try WordArt and then use a font (they have a lot to choose from) that goes with your overall design.

For the back cover, I would suggest using a lighter color for the font. The black blends in at the top.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 12:56

I think that the picture works well. I think that a font that's very thick and has very little letter spacing would work well: eg. Bernard MT Condensed, Gill Sans Ultra Bold, and my personal favorite for this application, Optima ExtraBlack.

I think that a plain text would work well because if you use a cartoony or Old Style font it would take away from your project and make it blend in.

I think that if the back cover had a pair of opened curtains it would work very well to show the beginning and end of the "show."

slmcnutt | Sun, 2007-03-18 23:15

Front:
Does the red face or orange background look too plain? Should I perhaps put the outline of a face, or something else in the red section? Does the red face look kinda disproportional? Do the purple dots look out of place? I wanted to try to show that a pretty crazy/partying person (hence the hair) would enjoy these tracks. Can you see the lines behind the title? (These are meant to accentuate the title.. perhaps I should make them a different color)? Do any of the colors just look out of place to you?

Back:
I wanted to go for a weird "wtf" effect--just something that would make the viewer wonder. Do the eyeballs just look too weird? How about the CrAzY.. would it look better in all lower case? Should I arrange the eyeballs so that they are all around a perfect circle instead of just scattered?

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 18:56

The graphics are pretty neat. I'd maybe find some way to unify the front and the back because they are very different.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:05

I agree, the graphics on this are good. Also, to unify the front and back, try changing the black on the gradient(on the back) to the light red/maroon color on the top of the front of the cd. That should help.

The colors on the front are great, I wouldn't change them. The face looks fine, as does the red section. I think the lines are just distracting, the title grabs your attention without them.

The eyeballs are fine, though the pupils seem a little fuzzy looking.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 00:18

I like the colors on both the front and back but they don't really match up so one of them has to change. The lines by the title look fine the way they are.
The eyes look fine I wouldn't change them to a perfect circle because that would defeat the craziness.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:17

Nice job overall. I like the cover, although the pink and the orangish colors are odd together. Either way it still works. I really like the back, the colors seem to work better together and i like the rhythm and flow that the circles in the circles gives. I dont think the eyeballs look weird at all, but i didnt even know they were eyeballs, cause i didntlook too closeley yet. Even up close, they kinda have the feeling of shapes more than eyeballs. I think you did a good job and all that.

cmmazeik | Mon, 2007-03-19 00:18

Should I add a picture of people in the mirror on the front? Is the color scheme for the song list on the back alright? I picked out this font for the writing on the CD but I'm not sure if it looks alright. Should I change it? Does it look too generic? What should I add to it to make it better? What should I take off? Any other comments welcome. Thanks!! Smiling

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 20:41

I like the cover for your cd. Good image choice. I think perhaps the back cover needs to "pop" more. The gray background color is not very exciting after the looking at the front cover. Also, make sure that the song titles and artists are aligned consistently. Song #2 is a bit off. But I do like the contrast between song title and artist.

C. Obergfell

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 21:10

I really like the theme of this cover! You might try to find an image that actually has a reflection in the rear view mirror, but I do like the image that you have. Different colors on the back cover would probably highlight the text better. You might also try playing with the alignment of the song titles to make it more visually appealing.

K.Andry

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 12:00

I like your overall concept for this design.

I don't think you should add an image of people in the mirror. Because of how the image was taken the camera does not have a head-on view of the mirror. If you add people to the mirror it may look off with the rest of the image.

I really like the font on the front cover, it adds character to the image. I think the font on the back may be a bit generic. You might try a font that is in the same family as the font you used on the front cover.

Just a thought:
You might think about adding an image to the back cover. If you want to show people in the back seat, you might try that on the back cover instead of in the mirror. You would still be following the general concept that you have with the front cover.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:24

the cover is cool, gives an interesting feel for being a plain photo. I like the place it puts you. Although i am not sure if you are going for a post graduation idea, but the text didnt match, design is good ideas maybe clash unless i am getting the wrong idea. The back is boring, but i am sure you didnt finish it yet. if not it still works, but maybe needs something, right?

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:43

I like the cover of your case, and especially the text effects. You might have done a little more work on the backside, and exploring the features of photoshop a little more for both the front and back, but yours is one of the better cases I saw.

So this is a really rought draft so work with me Smiling.

The CD is supposed to sell to parents who feel disconnected from their children and want to learn what kind of music they listen to so that they can better "connect".

Questions:
Is the orange/blue color scheme too annoying rather than attention grasping? Do you have suggestions for an alternate color scheme? Do you have suggestions for particular images to put on the label? How should I change the text around to make it more appealing and attaractive to my adult audience?

Thanks!

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:11

Yes, unfortunately, the color scheme is somewhat annoying. Contrasting colors are hard to pull off. Perhaps try playing around with just different shades of blue to replace the orangey/yellow color.

As for images, try looking on a stock photo website for a "cool teen" so parents feel like the cd is really from a teen instead of somebody else.

I would just find a font that looks good to you, chances are, if you think something looks good others will too.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:13

I like the 20/20 idea. Maybe instead of glasses use an eye chart and replace the letters on the eye chart with the words that are inside the glasses. For images on the back, maybe try to find one large image of an adult listening to music and have it cover the back, the images there now look like they were just dropped in. I think the color scheme is ok, it did not annoy me. If you do use a different text make sure it is not too fancy, make it more traditional. Good idea, keep the revisions coming...

Brian F.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 12:14

If you want to use an orange and blue color scheme like this, a lighter orange and darker blue tend to work better. The blue you are currently using for the main text would work with a lighter orange color. The blue you use for 20/20 is really bright.

I like your idea about "The Parent's Insight Into Today's Popular Music." But what if you tied it in more with your idea about understanding their children. I don't know if this is possible but maybe like a parent spying on their child. For instance, a child in their bedroom jumping around (or lying on their bed listening to their ipod) and the parent peeking in through a crack in the door or a window.

The image of the girl on the bottom looks very clip arty (yes, I made that up Smiling ) It might help if you could find a more realistic picture.

This is a comp album for those who don't mind being lazy. I intend for it to fold in half, hopefully you can visualize what I'm talking about.I tried to make the design reflect that theme (kind of crappy, like someone spent 5 minutes on it), but here are some questions I have.

1. Does the intentionally haphazard design make you want to buy the album more or less, even while knowing that this album is specifically meant for those with a lazy, take-life-as-it-comes attitude
2. What do you think about the title, Daylight Savings? Does it fit the theme?
3. I'm wondering where to put the list of songs. If you have suggestions, let me know.

"Love, then whatever." -St. Augustine

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 21:04

I like the goofy cover-- and I mean "goofy" in a good way. I think it accomplishes what you're trying to do and gives off the correct vibes. The title makes sense when you explain it, but I didn't immediately get it when I looked at the cover. You might also play with the font size of the title & the alignment.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:13

I love the chaotic idea. It works great for the message that you're trying to get across. My suggestion for where to put the song titles would be right across from the title. When you fold it in half, it seems to make the most sense to put them there. I also like your choice of colors. They're loud, and they add to the craziness of the design, but in a good way. You can still tell that there is some crucial organization in the project, but in a chaotic sort of way. Great idea.

R. Krinn

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 13:03

I think you're taking a risk with it but if you are using it for a CD of lazy, laid-back songs it'd be fine. I think that the color in it is horrificly bad, so yoou're probably on the right track. I also like how you make the color bleed out of the shirt and "shoes," I think that you need to do that with the rest of the picture or none of the parts at all. I think that you need to find a "horizon line" in the picture and make walls, ceiling, etc to make the cover stand out more.

Although a 2D image can work, it's a little bit too easy. You can make dimension with only a few simple lines. Also, I'd put a little bit more into the room. Possibly having the character laying back or in a La Z-boy could help.

The design you have made is effective at getting your theme across. The design sticks out compared to other's and it will grab people's attention. I wouldn't say that the desing makes me want to buy the cd more, that would just depend on the music. As far the title goes, it fits with the design, but once again, I'm not sure if it fits with the song list. I would suggest making your songlist blend in to your design some how. By this I mean that you could put the song list on a poster that hangs on the wall, or a stack of books, etc. But it is off to a good start.

This is supposed to be a work out mix for incoming college students to help them beat the freshman 15. I'm not to sure about the title. It is something i have settled on but i am also taking suggestions. I think it might be a little plain. What do you think?

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:09

I really like the idea for the front cover with the stick people on it. It's something that makes it stand out, yet it still goes with the picture. A suggestion for the back cover is to not use the aqua-colored container behind the text. It doesn't really fit it with the rest of it, and I think just making the text a slightly different color would make it more legible if that's what you were trying to fix.

R. Krinn

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 13:10

I think you have a good start. I think that you need some work on the back but you're on your way. I would have to say that the text box color is pretty bad. I think that pulling the orange from the shorts would be a decent choice and using the blue of the water for the song text and using the skin tone for the band names. It's going to stick out and have good readablity. I also think that your font is too boring. There's nothing wrong with Arial-esque fonts except that the front has vibrant, well-used fonts that are playful, blend and connect to the topic. Having one sharp font with vibrant color with a rounded, transparent font works well. Try something similar on the back. Possibly have the title of the CD on the back again in the vibrant font and use another font on the song titles.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:14

I love the stick people on the front. I think it's eye-catching, creative, and humorous. It really draws people to the cover. I also like the font for your subtitle on the front. The "bubbling" around it looks really good. It would be cool to have the mirrored someplace on the back, too!

Even though you've got the water and the "beachy" theme from front to back, I don't know if the front and back really fit together perfectly. It's an excellent start, but I think there are some cohesiveness issues. A few suggestions on changes you could make:

1. Perhaps replace the guy in the water on the back with another cartoon figure? That would definitely connect the two, and the cartoons are really great. The cartoons and then the real person clash a bit- for me at least.

2. Keep the same color scheme for the text from front to back. The yellow on the front matches the bright colors of the stick people. If you changed the background or the text to match the yellow text on the front I think it would flow more nicely.

3. I would make the song list fit in the box a little bit better. There's a lot of empty space around the songs, and the surrounding box could be fitted a bit better.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:47

I like the idea of the lake and the whole recreation theme, but the stick figures on the front look straight out of Paintbrush, which they may very well have been, and the gold title across the top looks like Word Art from Microsoft Word. Put together, these seem kind of tacky, and the color contrast isn't that good. But all in all, the viewer gets the idea of the theme of the CD, it just might have been presented a little better.

-mbeall

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:53

Your project looks like you have a good start to it, but theres a few suggestions I would make.

On the front I like what you did with the two fonts, but I would make the bottom line of text all fit in one line. To make this happen maybe use a smaller font size or take out the bending of the top line.

On the back, I would suggest just like the other person did to use an orange color in the tracklisting background. Maybe make it opaque or put a texture in it. I would also suggest straightening out the horizon line of the background.

But you have a good start and with a few changes it will look good.

nickd | Mon, 2007-03-19 17:28

For the cover I plan on making it more of a metal look that looks like a dial that switches between the types of music. The idea for the CD is that it is a CD that has a mix of different types of music so that people can explore other types of music they usually don't listen to. Right now it uses the the title of the types of music to show the choices. However I wonder if maybe to show it better if I should have the title and make an emblem for each one like for country would be a cowboy hat.

Also, does the title work I was trying to think of something that worked and so far that is what I came up with. I choose the green colors since a combination of that and white text works well together.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 17:59

Your project looks pretty good. The layout is nice. The use of a complementary color or something that stands out and is set apart from the green might help it look a little better.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 18:15

I like your choice of colors and how each type of music has their own bubble on the front. It makes them pop out to me more. On the back I like how the same color scheme is used and how all your tracks flow nicely in the circle and keep with the overall theme. The detail with the titling on the side edges also add to the cd. Maybe play around with the title name, but I think the one you have chosen will work. Overall I think this is something I would pick up to at least look at.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 21:00

I really like the different shades of green and the gray borders around the text on the front cover. I like the emblem idea. It might help someone who was simply looking at the cover to understand that it is an eclectic mix of music. You might consider working with the alignment of the back cover text. The centering works well with the background, but playing with the alignment and fill gradients of the background might make it more visually appealing.

Sbudnik | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:12

My CD theme uses songs that are good for studying to. I wanted to keep the front simple and calm, so I can associate the type of music with concentration. I wanted the viewer to get a similar feeling with when they look at the cover than when they listen to the songs. Does this cover do that effectively? Does it appear too simple? What could I add to make it more appealing?

The back needs a little work with the text I think. I'm not sure what, but maybe I should vary the sizes more to make it look like handwritten notes.

Anonymous | Mon, 2007-03-19 22:18

The cd has a very good theme that is used throughout the front and back cover. I like covers that are simple, they allow you to not be distracted by tons of element. Very solid design in my view.

Brian F.

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 15:00

I like the theme you keep between the front and back cover. Both of them have the same feel.

The only suggestions i would have to make would be to maybe add some secondary text with another font, just to add a little contrast.

It's simple, but it's focussed on what your theme is. On the back, I like your idea of varying the sizes, or maybe adding some little doodles or scratchouts of things you could have messed up, but I like the them you have and it looks good so far.

I really like the front cover that you have. I like the way that you used the same photo with different colors. By the way, the color selection is good too. The only things that I would think about are coming up with a new title, something more original, and also the song list. I don't quite get why the right side of the song list is backwards. Makes it very hard to read, as would be expected. Great overall design!

Anonymous | Tue, 2007-03-20 14:50

Your CD case is the best one I've seen yet. I really like what you've done with the color scheming on the front and the different colors for the same image of the van. On the back, I really like the inverted artist list across from the song titles. It looks like a lot of work was put into this, and it really looks like you used and explored the software quite a bit.

Your covers look good so far, keeping a good theme throughout that ties in with the album concept.

The colors are good, except I think they may be a little dark for the white text style that you have. The white text looks good, but the font face kind of gets lost in it. Maybe adding a dark border to it might change this?

I like the back, but the mirroring of the words is hard to read. I think maybe replacing that brown color with a color that is on the front, maybe the orange from the bottom right bus would look nice in there, but it looks good so far.

I chose to go with a movie soundtrack theme.
The name of the movie : English 419
The Plot : Not really essential
The Songs : are connected to the movie and feature in the film

The movie is set in Purdue and most of the action takes place in Matthew 301, so I chose to go with a Purdue theme. As of now I am sill deciding if I should take pictures of the classroom along with pictures of Purdue for the inlay.
Specifically, I want to know if the design is too simple, too plain or too monotone. I chose the black and gold theme because those colors are the colors of Purdue. --- Anuttam Mahapatra

I like the idea (very original) but I do feel that the cover and back lack a little color and vibrancy. The don't reflect the fun that you seem to have in that class as indicated by the song list. I would do something with the Purdue "P" to show how your taking a normal Purdue class and making it fun.

A few questions...

Is the color of my text easily readable? Is the background image color on the front too dull? If so, what do you recommend? Also, I feel like I need something else on the back besides just the track listing, but I'm not sure what. If you agree, do you have any suggestions? Any comments are welcome, even if it involves a major change to my CD package! Thanks!

The color of your text is readable, but the fact that it keeps changing is annoying. Maybe if you changed the font and the color it would look better. More of a flow instead of just random changes. More alignment would also help everything to flow better. Doing something with the back cover, such as adding a gradient or even a picture would help it from looking boring.

I'm going for a semi grungy feel for this CD and so far I only have a few of the details worked out. I intend to create a brick texture for the back cover when the CD is done. My biggest question is your opinion of the fonts so far. Are they too unreadible or not wild enough a CD like this

I really like that you used a good resolution for this project. The taped edges gives it a good look. There looks to be a lot of whitespace though, but since this is just a draft, no biggie. Maybe if u had something in the background of the cover to make it look more chaotic, that would fill it in better. Same with the back cover. Also, not to gripe, there should be songs on the bottom of the piece of paper on the back, lol.

Your design is off to a good start. To answer your questions, I do like the fonts that you have chosen. They seem to fit into the theme that you want. The colors also seem to fit in well. I think that you just need to add a little more to the design in order to fill it out. The brick texture that you mentioned sounds like a good idea. Overall, the design is working well.

I really like the back. The pinned up list is a great idea. To answer your question, I think the fonts are perfect, especially the backwards letters in the title. I also like the silhouetted figure in the front. It adds to the anonymity that many of the angst-ridden masses feel. All in all, I really like the whole effect.

Questions for reviewer:

On the cover, do the colors and dancers have a college feel?

My main audience is college age people with my secondary audience being high school age people. Does the title limit my audience to only college age people?

Is the title too generic?

Do you feel that the colors (red, orange, and yellow) work for the overall design?

Thank you!

The pics of the dancing people aren't working right now. Sorry about that.
The pics are dancing people who have been blacked out.
