Appended below is a partial list of aesthetic manifestos. (It is a bit culturally biased because it only includes texts written in English or with an extant English translation.) Each student will select a manifesto, read it, and do supplementary research about the corresponding aesthetic attitude, movement, or school. (These manifestos often are dense, jargon-filled, cryptic, ergodic, or otherwise difficult to comprehend, so they require sustained attention. Outside sources also are useful for interpretation.) Students will then complete the following form: • Aesthetic Manifesto Analysis form Completed forms are available through this link. Each student will discuss his/her findings with the class in an informal presentation lasting three minutes or less. The form and presentation together are worth four Engagement Assignment points.
