To address the issue of how we can better capture and describe the value of the work we do both within our institutions and outside of them, this poster turns to a practice of particular relevance to Professional and Technical Writing: effective data visualization. It identifies multiple methods to communicate a program’s value in readily comprehensible ways: digital maps based on form responses that plot the geographical distribution of incoming students and their placements after graduation; social network diagrams that reveal connections between programs, students, and alumni; charts that demonstrate the frequency with which alumni enter various occupations; graphs that track degree holders’ average salaries nationally and regionally. These visualizations can be embedded into digital documents or assembled into brief printed fact sheets suitable for recruitment purposes.
