Sense of Purpose: The purpose of this data map is to most likely show proper kendo technique to aspiring kendo practioners. The Main text pretty much gives the viewer a sense of purpose. The oriental-looking characters also help.
Audience: The audience will most likely be people who are familiar with kendo and want to learn more about proper kendo stances and whatnot.
Context: This data map will probably be used as a poster at a local kendo teaching facility or maybe a chain of kendo teaching facilities.
Strategies: The data map is using what I'm guessing to be characters that would be familiar to a kendo practioner. It goes step by step into the different techniques applied in kendo. I can only assume that these are basic kendo techniques.
Medium: It seems to be a poster of some sort most likely for a local building which would suit its audience well, because it would be seen by the people who would benefit from it the most.
Arrangement: It's a black colored document with what I'm guessing to be chinese characters to add to the style. It's setup in three rows. I'm guessing each row is a different technique because the beginning of each row is numbered one.
Strengths: I like the simplicity of the poster. It seems very straightforward, and I doubt anyone would question the purpose of this data map.
Improvements: Maybe instead of having one large caption underneath each row, each step should have its own caption, in order to give a better description of each move.
Comment: It's a good start. Once I see the graphics, I would have a better realization of his purpose.
* What is this map's sense of purpose? What features of the map make you think that?
Due to the title alone I would guess that this maps purpose is regarding proper Kendo Technique.
* What is this map's audience? What features of the map make you think that?
The audience would be people interested in Kendo techniques. Possibly to be shown at a Kendo class or shown in an advertisement to get more people to start taking a Kendo class. The fact that the title is in two languages suggests to me that you may be trying to reach more than one nationality in your audience.
* What is this map's context? What features of the map make you think that?
The size and proportion of the image sides gives me the idea that this would be a great poster.
* What strategies does this map use? How do these strategies suit its sense of purpose, audience, or context?
The background and layout of this help the context. I really like the layout. I have no idea what the symbol in the background means but I think it is aesthetically appealing. Also the simplicity of black and white is something that is very nice in this. In other comments I have mentioned that they needed more color - in this one I do not think so.
* What will be this map's final medium? How does this medium suit its sense of purpose, audience, or context?
If this were in poster form it would most likely be mass-produced for Kendo groups/associations/clubs across the country(potentially countries). This would help expanding the audience base.
* How is this map arranged? How does this arrangement suit its sense of purpose, audience, or context?
The simplicity of its arrangement and the three groups of three pictures are extremely appealing visually. When your design looks good it helps bring the audiences attention in.
* What is the strongest element of this data map and why?
The simplicity of design is the best. Clearly it isn't finished but that is most certainly the best.
* What element of this data map needs the most improvement and why?
I am not entirely sure what pictures you are putting and the captions regarding them. I assume they are regarding the techniques. My suggestion is that you need to make sure that you don't put anything on here that overly kills the simplicity. You don't want to distract from your excellent design elements, however you need to make sure you get the content up there effectively. Hopefully you will be able to find some sort of balance.

The purpose of this is for someone to learn Kendo techniques. This could definitely be in poster form, possibly in a Kendo gym. Also, the dark grey color scheme would make it look appealing in large form on a wall. There are three rows of images, which make me think that there are possibly going to be three moves explained, with three steps each. This is apparent because of the caption stretching all the way from left to right underneath the three rows.
The audience would be people learning kendo, and interested in learning new moves, who could possibly be members of a gym that teaches Kendo, or they could just be at a regular gym with different posters, and the onlooker could be interested in learning some new moves. The attractive look of the Japanese characters in the background, and the translation of the title make the piece tend to have a persuasive, “recruiting” tone. It’s meant to bring someone into the art of Kendo who probably has not experienced Martial Arts before.
The context of this piece is a poster in a gym. The attractive look of the visual layout of the piece, it would attract a random exerciser’s attention, to come up close to look at the Kendo moves. A large part of this appeal beyond 5 feet is the characters in the background, which make the poster look appealing because it is easy to see.
There is a title at the top, which also has the Japanese character translation. Two large characters in the background are displayed behind the pictures and captions. These characters could possibly explain the techniques, where the character on top explains the moves on top, and the one on the bottom describes the bottom moves. This fits into the context, because the large characters make it visual from far away.
The Background, title, and color scheme provide a very entertaining setup. The low amount of contrast between the background characters and their surrounding background will give an accent to the images.
The images look rather blocky (if that’s a word). If possible, it would fit better into the purpose to make the images have rough edges. This would provide a martial art look. Also, make sure to use the same font in the title and body. That part of it looks a little awkward. Even though the full content is not filled in, it looks spectacular, and makes me want to learn more about Kendo.

Purpose: To describe 3 different Kendo techniques. I gleaned this from the title.
Audience: For beginning to intermediate Kendo learners. Because there are only three spots to describe each move so I would think they are simpler techniques.
Context: Inside a dojo or whatever, or a poster or handout for some kind of kendo club.
Strageties: Simplicity. Simple colors and straight forward delivery. Really cuts down on possible confusion do to design.
Medium: Poster or handout of some kind.
Arrangement: Simple, block level formatting. It helps make it easier to read. Although some titles for the various techniques would be handy.
Strongest Element: Straight forward. Not a lot of confusion.
Weakest. Images should probably be bigger and the numbers are kind of distracting, making them smaller or blending them into the design would probably help.
