Graphics

  • Two major types of graphics
    • Bitmap (or raster)
      • most common for photorealistic images
      • describe images pixel by pixel (or as a collection of dots)
      • are resolution dependent, thus scaling upward leads to loss of quality
    • Vector
      • more common for line art such as logos or clip art
      • describe images mathematically as collections of lines (straight and curved, such as circles)
      • are resolution independent, thus can be scaled infinitely

  • Kinds of graphics
    • Information graphics
      • graphs
      • charts
      • diagrams
      • screenshots
    • Promotion graphics
