Summary:
The Publics Project asks students to produce three packaging documents for material that is in the American public domain or licensed for modification and reproduction. The documents are:
- A book jacket for a public domain text (6" X 9")
- A DVD cover for a public domain/Creative Commons movie (5.25" X 7.25")
- A CD cover for a selection of Creative Commons audio (4.75" X 4.75")
Students will produce two distinct drafts of each document corresponding to separate aesthetic approaches covered in class. Drafts will be screened during class workshops to help students determine which design aesthetic to pursue. In producing these works, students will take care not to violate copyright and other intellectual property laws (which will be covered in class).
Final documents will be delivered as press-quality .pdf files. They will be submitted using DROPitTOme. Before submitting, students should title the documents using this nomenclature:
- lastname-firstname-book.pdf
- lastname-firstname-dvd.pdf
- lastname-firstname-cd.pdf
Once the documents have been named correctly, follow these instructions:
- Go to this website: http://dropitto.me/jtirrell
- Enter the password "tirrell"
- Click the "Choose File" button, select your document, and click "UPLOAD"
- Repeat step 3 for your other two documents
