  • format:
    • memorandum (usually only for print)
    • header
      • to
      • from
      • date
      • subject
    • address
    • contact info
    • closing (sign off)
    • attachments
    • single space, no indent, line break between paragraphs
  • from a specific person to a specific person or group
    • company-wide memos are possible and often necessary, but more focused ones often work better
  • have a clear purpose
    • Does the memo request action? Does it provide necessary direction? FYI documents are often weaker than purpose-driven ones
  • 6 Cs
    • concise, concrete, complete, correct, courteous, clear
  • does a different job for a different audience than the press release
