Extra Credit

You may earn up to 10 points of extra credit (at the instructor's discretion) by writing an approximately two-page letter to the author (or authors) of either Performing Prose or Sin & Syntax in which you identify and discuss one specific problem with the text that could be amended. To achieve full credit, the letter should:
  • Introduce the writer and provide context about why he or she is a valid interested party
  • Identify the issue specifically by referencing material in the text
  • Discuss how the issue could be corrected by offering concrete examples
  • Close in a fashion appropriate to the genre
Letter writers should use a style and tone that would increase the chances of the recipient taking the message seriously. (Badgering likely would not be an effective strategy.) Letter writers should attend to the conventions of the genre and the particulars of the rhetorical situation. Letters that demonstrate greater familiarity with the text will score higher than those that suggest lesser engagement. Letters are due (via email) no later than the end of our final exam period on Dec. 6.
