We will be using Google Docs Document to create our group design plans. The interface of Google Docs Document should be familiar, particularly now that you have experience from creating your Gantt chart.

Gantt Charts

We will be using Google Docs Spreadsheet to create our group Gantt charts. Gantt charts are used in project management to plot the start dates, end dates, and duration of specific project tasks, as well as who is responsible for them. Gantt charts show task overlaps, and are useful to help identify where time and resources are being used. (This Wikipedia entry provides a useful overview.)

In class on Monday (1/28) each student will spend no more than 1 minute presenting his or her goals for the data map (in terms of sense of purpose, audience, context) and how the data map will be revised next.
All other students will be responsible for posing at least one question to at least one of the presenters.

Data Visualization Activity

The purpose of this visualization activity is for students to gain experience working with data maps. Select one of the choices below and create a data map based upon the respective information. The maps students produce should be posted to this blog entry as file attachments by the beginning of class on Monday, Jan. 14. This activity is a 2 point homework grade.
