All students have one overarching extra credit opportunity. To participate, a student must present a display over a post-1900 rhetorician that we haven't covered in class at the English in Action Showcase. The Showcase is akin to a science fair, but for English projects. It takes place on Friday, April 27, from 3:30-5:30 in Randall Library. The participant guidelines are here. The sign-up form, which is due by 5:00pm on April 24, is accessible through this link. A student's display should discuss the life and thought of a post-1900 rhetorician we have not covered in class. Some displays are tangible items such as posters or trifolds; others are laptop-driven presentations. Displays are multimedia objects, so elements such as images, tables, diagrams, video, and sound are encouraged. Students must be present during the English in Action Showcase to present their materials. Students should identify their subjects independently. Possibilities include (but are not limited to) Mikhail Bakhtin, Virginia Woolf, Wayne Booth, Hélène Cixous, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Gloria Anzaldúa, Noam Chomsky, and Stanley Fish. Students should verify their subject with the instructor at the beginning of their project. Through this opportunity students may earn up to four percentage points on their course grades. Point assignment is completely at the discretion of the instructor. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. |
