Rhetoric is involved with persuasion and making an argument.
The three main modes of rhetorical persuasion are:
  • ethos (appeal to credibility)
  • pathos (appeal to emotion)
  • logos (appeal to reason). 
There is something in rhetoric that helps imbue social or moral norms.
We see associate rhetoric with the following kinds of texts:
  • Political
  • Social (for some community)
  • Advertising
  • Legal
  • Moral

Five classical canons of rhetoric:

  • Invention
  • Arrangement
  • Style
  • Memory
  • Delivery
