Lesson Plan Format

Lesson plans are written documents outlining activities for one 50-minute class period and the theoretical justification for their value. Each lesson plan should connect with one of the four units established by the essay prompts. The lesson plan format for this assignment is similar to that of the Teaching Presentation with some alterations. Lesson plans created for a student's Teaching Presentation may be modified for use in this project. Lesson plans should contain the following:

  • Unit (the essay unit with which this lesson plan connects)
  • Title (name of assignment or what it will address)
  • Rationale (why this assignment is valuable articulated in terms of the principles contained in the student's Teaching Philosophy)
  • Goals (what students should gain/improve by engaging with the lesson)
  • Steps (the procedures to complete the assignment)
  • Evaluation (how the assignment is assessed)
  • Citation (any works the assignment draws upon)
