Unless otherwise indicated, for each class meeting students are expected to email the instructor responses discussing one of the assigned readings. These responses should demonstrate a student's knowledge of the material but should not be summaries. Rather, responses should be critiques that engage with the reading's ideas. A response's discussion should draw evidentiary support (quotations, summaries) from the reading. Responses also should connect the reading with other readings and outside sources were appropriate. Students who write responses over a particular reading are expected to act as discussion leaders during the corresponding class meeting.
