Summary:For this assignment, students working in groups will develop a promotional handout for the university's Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Science and Medical Writing. The purpose of this document is to help recruit applicable students by providing targeted information about the program. It will address the certificate's main potential student pools: current UNCW graduate students and working professionals in science and medical fields. The document primarily will be distributed at student-focused education and career fairs. To support the main document, student groups will create a brief report articulating how it effectively meets its rhetorical goals. Groups will deliver their materials and report in a culminating presentation. Associated university faculty and staff will provide guidance during project development and offer feedback on draft materials. Their input on final products will have a direct impact on students' project grades. To facilitate project management, students will maintain a Gantt chart, submit weekly individual progress reports, and compose a cumulative postmortem.
Through this project, students will practice working collaboratively to produce professional materials for an authentic client. In so doing, students will demonstrate their understanding of audience awareness, research, ethos, professionalism, and document design. All materials created for this project become the exclusive property of the client. If clients are unable to provide project feedback within an appropriate time frame, the instructor will make all project grading decisions.
