Select one work from American Earth to complete this response. Your goal is to answer two questions:

1. What is this work's subject and what does it assert about it?
2. How is this work composed rhetorically? Consider issues such as:
   • What in the work reveals information about the intended audience's ethics and expectations?
   • To what situation or exigence is the work responding?
   • What strategies does the work use to further its purpose?
