Reading Responses Overview

Reading Responses allow students to connect ideas in readings, ask questions, follow lines of inquiry, etc. Students should read others' posts and—if possible—respond to them. The goal is to display genuine interaction with course readings, topics, and questions while interacting with other students.

You may submit your Reading Responses to Canvas as video, audio, or text posts. Length isn't a significant priority in Reading Responses. Instead of focusing on quantity, please follow these guidelines:

  • Be brief: Keep posts concise while explaining your ideas.
  • Forward a clear point: Start with a clear statement of your response's main assertion (like a mini thesis statement).
  • Engage with the material: Include specifics from readings and cite page numbers for your quotations, summaries, and paraphrases where applicable.
  • Use visual cues with text: Include headings, indents, and lists to avoid long blocks of text and make written posts easier to read.
  • Reply: Replies are encouraged although not required. They help make discussions more active and engaging.

Reading Responses are worth two points each.
