How to make the perfect healthier grilled cheese sandwich
Purpose:
These instructions are meant to provide a great way of making a grilled cheese sandwich, but with ingredients that contain less fat and calories and has more fiber and other nutrients than the traditional version of the sandwich. I want people who are or becoming health conscious to know that they do not have to sacrifice one of their favorite foods or its flavor.
Audience:
People who are looking for healthier version of the grilled cheese, or people who want to eat healthier but have trouble making changes in their lifestyle. Also, are those who want to make a quick and easy lunch, either for themselves or for their families, and have access to the ingredients and a frying pan.
Context:
The audience are in search of a healthier grilled cheese alternative, again, in a magazine but this time one like Men's Health, and possibly on the publication's website. It would be done at home or at work, someplace comfortable during down-time.
Strategies:
It would be a similar set-up to the recipe for the perfect grilled cheese, but instead creating a way to make the sandwich sound pleasing to the health conscious people by pushing the positive health factors. Taste will have to be pushed more too, since usually the words "health" and "taste" are disassociated.
Medium:
Same as the perfect grilled cheese recipe, using magazine and web format, but marketed rather in publications that focus on keeping calories low.
Arrangement:
Same as the perfect grilled cheese recipe, but customized to accommodate the health factor. I.E.: In the illustrations and what the steps focus on and why these ingredients were chosen.
Testing:
Again, have friends that meet the criteria of being an audience member and have them follow the instructions. They whould then communicate their end result of the instructions and any issues will be resolved and reflected in the instructions.
Everything seems to be put
Everything seems to be put together very nicely. The audience and purpose elements are very thorough in explaining who you are trying to reach out to as well as why you are trying to do so. I had no idea there was a great tasting, low calorie way of making grilled cheese and I'll have to try it out! The specific examples of medium mentioned are very excellent examples- a health magazine would definitely host something of the sort, especially with all the weight-conscious people out there. I feel that the only thing that would change about this instruction set would be you would let go of all the low calorie ideas and use the real butter, whole milk cheeses, etc.
Feedback
In my opinion the rhetorical element that is covered most thoroughly is the purpose. It is very specific, to make a healthier sandwhich, so this narrows down the audience to a health conscious group of consumers looking for a quick yet healthy way to eat.
The rhetorical element which is covered least thoroughly is the testing. The test will not reveal whether the meal is actually any healthier or different than the other instruction set.
The audience of the author's proposed instruction set has similar characteristics as my set's audience. Both audiences are going to be interested in the instructions. For his, they will be looking to be health conscious. For mine, they also will need to have a slight interest in the topic.
It might not be practical, but it would be interesting to see how this instruction set would change if it were to be marketed to a group of obese people. This would force the instruction set to be more appealing and convincing since they are very different than people who this is geared to (Men's Health readers).
