Taking a video using your mac, and editing video with imovie

Purpose: My purpose for these instructions is slightly different than my previous instructions. In these instructions I am going to explain how to take a video using the built in camera in the macbook, edit that video using imove, and upload it to youtube. My intention is for the audience to feel comfortable enough to successfully use the built in camera and imovie after reading my directions. I plan on using clear and concise directions on how to use and navigate through the imovie program, as well as operate the camera. There are not established instructions for imovie that are readily available for users. I want to provide the best and most accurate instructions on the market.

Audience: Characteristics of my audience: Have a mac. Have imovie 08. Have a desire to edit video. have a desire to take a video using his or her built in camera. Want to publish video onto Youtube. Have a desire to learn more about how imovie works. My audience will be sitting down at a computer, and could potentially become very frustrated, as my people do, with insufficient directions. It it my job to cater to my audience and provide them with helpful instructions that don't get them upset. The most common use for the built in camera is for making video blogs. A person can sit down and video themselves stating an opinion, and then upload that opinion to Youtube, This has become a very common practice and I want to explain just how to perform this action.

Context: The communication will take place at a person's computer when they are ready to video themselves via the built in camera. Exactly when I give the information is not important, because people will want to take and edit video during all times of the year. I will make web based instructions that can easily be viewed while using imovie.

Strategies: Visuals will be my main and most effective strategy. With virtually every step I will include a visual of what that looks like on the imovie screen. This will keep the reader focused and give him or her a better understanding of the instructions. I will also use simple language, as to not confuse the reader. I am writing both instruction sets for beginner imovie users so it will not include technical jargon. The instructions will also look neat and professional.

Medium: I will be using the internet as my medium for this assignment. The internet is the most effective medium because the audience can move back and forth between the instructions and the imovie screen. This is the most effective medium as well because it can reach the broadest audience. More people will be able to access it, as compared to written instructions.

Arrangement: My instructions will be arranged step by step to go through the imovie and Youtube upload process. Almost every step will include a picture of the imovie/youtube screen to guide the reader as they carry out the instructions. I will do my best to present instructions that flow the way a person would use imovie, and not include steps that are out of order, or steps that they don't need.

Testing: The best way to test my instructions would be ask someone who isn't familiar with imovie or its built in camera to carry out the instructions. Since my target audience is beginners, I want to make sure the person testing is unfamiliar with imovie as well.

Good

I thought the purpose was interesting. I've never put anything on youtube but if I wanted, I would need this set of instructions do to so.

I think testing is the least thorough. I would want to know more abuot what the test subject reactions would tell you.

Your instructions also talk about beginners.

If they were designed for someone who knows more about video editing, it could be more about advanteages of using this software instead of basics.

*Seem to have firm grasp on

*Seem to have firm grasp on the audience. I think you chose a good topic and I can tell that you know what you are talking about.

* Alot of your responses for each of the rhetorical elements reminds me of your other instruction set. Maybe you could think of another medium to use since you are already using that medium for the other instrucionts.

*We both plan on using step by step instrucions with pictures at each step, and using steps that are to the point and easy to follow.

*Like I kind of said in my other response maybe focus on choosing one topic and change the instructions based on more specific audience like elderly and teenagers. And then choose two different mediums that go along with your audience. This will make the instructions more distinct and seperate.
