For Immediate Release

ACORN Issues Increased Training for Employees

New York, New York - October 6, 2009 - Recently released videos show ACORN employees advising undercover vigilantes on ways to start an illegal brothel. According to ACORN President Maude Hurd, the event was an isolated incident that is being taken very seriously.

"The misjudgments that have transpired demonstrate weakness in one branch of our organization, and are not representative of what ACORN stands for," said Hurd. "However, we will be increasing employee training for all branches over the coming months to ensure something like this will never happen again."

Along with increasing employee training the following measures have/will be taken by ACORN:
-The ACORN employees who were guilty of aiding the prostitution ring have been fired.
-Newly trained and thoroughly researched replacements have issues to take over the vacancies.
-Thorough background checks will now be conducted for all ACORN employees.
-As of October 6, ACORN will match any donation received, and provide donors with exact plans on how ARORN will use those funds to better communities.

ACORN is committed to reestablishing its credibility with the American Public. By taking the above steps the organization feels it can quickly change its negative perceptions.

"ACORN has, and always will be, an organization that cares about American communities," Hurd stated. "We will continue to work hard for those in need, and will not let one regretful incident deter us from our goals."

ACORN (The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is a non-profit organization committed to helping low and moderate-low income families and assure a brighter future for those less fortunate.

Team SSS

1. No, there are no formatting issues.
2. The only error we could find was at the end of the third paragraph, ACORN is spelled wrong. Other than that, it was very well put together.
3. ACORN takes necessary measures to ensure integrity.
4. Following the recently released videos of ACORN employees, the non-profit organization has decided to take drastic measures regarding the employee training program.
5. They sticked to the facts extremely well. They never got pulled off topic and rambled about unnecessary issues. Also, they got straight to the point by mentioning the situation and then explaining what they were going to do about it. The first ten words are about what happened, not how they are going to fix it- which is the purpose of the whole release.

Faulkourberries response

1. There are no formatting issues with this press release.

2. There was a mispelling of ACORN, but other than that I didn't see any other common errors.

3. ACORN Creates New Employee Training

4. ACORN employees were found to have been advising undercover potential business owners in procuring illegal brothels.

5. Deal with the facts. They did a great job with writing just the facts. It allowed the reader to know what was going on.
There wasn't anything wrong that I could find in the release.

ACORN Group self response

1. No formatting errors

2. As the other groups have already pointed out, there is a typo in the last sentence in the third paragraph where ACORN is spelled ARORN

3. ACORN Addresses Problem Revealing Videos

4. Recent undercover videos showing ACORN employees providing illegal advice have initiated the restructuring of the organiztion's employee training.

5. Starts strong.... and ends strong. No obvious criticisms.

TEAM EVAN

1.After reviewing the article we found that there were no formatting errors.

2.This group really paided attention to reading materials and class discussion, therefore the only error we could find was the misspelling of ACORN in the fourth bullet in the third paragraph.

3.ACORN employees encourage illegal brothel.

4.Recently released undercover video exposed ACORN employees offering illegal advice to potential brothal owners, which has lead to the restructuring of employee training.

5.The topic is newsworthy. As much contact information as possbile was provided. A negative element of the press release is hard to find.

Firestone's response to ACORN Press release

1) The formatting is good; but there needs to be a specific person from the organization of whom the media may ask questions. A contact name.

2) The press release does a good job and makes no errors.

3) ACORN Responds to Illegal Brothel Incident

4) ACORN advisors recently provided information to participants on how to begin and operate an illegal brothel.

5)The group has written effectively for the media. It is written in such a way that little modification is necessary if nakedly published, yet it leaves room from which the media may pursue a larger story. The release may start more strongly by explaining exactly what happened. The nature of the advise given by ACORN begs for more clarification and explication.

re: ACORN Press Release

This is a solid draft. Your headline would be more effective if it specified why these changes are being put in place. Also, don't use "vigilantes" in this context. You might also not want to use "undercover," which suggests that the individuals were connected with law enforcement.
