Design Analysis

The Design Analysis is a brief report that explicates how the features of your Instruction Manual, Retail Box Jacket, and Promotional Demo target an audience, connect with a context, and accomplish a purpose. An effective structure for the document is outlined below:

Introduction:

Provide brief background information about your game, such as the audience it targets and the genre it suits. Feel free to use comparisons to existing games where helpful. The corresponding One-Sheet should help you produce this section, which should be about one or two paragraphs.

Body:

Examine the concrete features of your materials (Instruction Manual, Retail Box Jacket, and Promotional Demo) in turn to demonstrate how they help target an audience, connect with a context, and accomplish a purpose. It will be more effective to identify and explicate specific elements of the materials rather than make general statements about them. Be sure to identify any pre-existing content that your materials incorporate. The body should constitute the bulk of your report and be multiple paragraphs in length.

Conclusion:

Discuss the connections among your materials and how they function as a coherent package. This section should clarify the materials' overall intended effect and how they achieve it. The conclusion likely will be a solid paragraph or two.

Remember that an analysis does not use first person; it should not talk about you nor your design process. The document's focus is how the associated materials operate rhetorically. Design Analyses will be submitted through Dropbox.
