Producing 2 different sets of instructions
How do we come up with two different sets of instructions targetting two distinct audiences if the item we are working on is pretty much usable by "anybody" (for example, I believe a remote control targets "everyone", even though you say "the general audience" is a myth)?
Remote Control
I think he means that though pretty much everyone uses a remote control, not everyone will perceive the instructions of how to use it the same way.
Question
So we are choosing an instruction set that already exists to analyze and complete the remainder of the project?

how specific do we have to be in explaining the steps? Also, do we have to put notes under each step and hazard notes about the procedure (like in the diagram on page 569 of the text)?
Warning labels
Regarding warning labels, should we be thorough for safety and legal reasons? Or should we leave out the most obvious ones so as to be more user-centered?

After reading tct and your blog post I have one question, which is why are we making an instructions manual? many of us will never MAKE an instruction manual. So is the purpose of this to help us understand them better by learning what it takes to make a good one? or is this something that might be beneficial in the long run?

Is there a required word count or page length for our two sets of instructions?

Do we have to select something that is semi complicated? For some instructions it would be really brief. For example a set of instructions for toasting a pop tart.

When giving examples on the page detailing the project, there was a reference to a cooking recipe. For something like that, how would one differentiate between the two instruction sets? I can't think of a way in which a recipe would need to be more detailed and/or technical than what someone is already reading in their kitchen as they make it.

My main question at this point concerns selecting something to provide instructions for. Is it something that we should already be familiar with? Or can it be anything we look up how to do on the internet?

Are the usability tests the actual tools needed to put together the final product? If so, do we need to provide every classmate with a set of tools?

Finding what works for me!
You mentioned that we should pick an item that we can easily work with based on the technical capabilities we already posses. Do you have any suggestions on how to pick the right item or even what types of items are best for producing a manual?

Do the instructions we choose to analyze for the Relevant Instruction Set Analysis have to be related to the instructions we plan on creating for the Final Instruction Sets?

How brief should our instructions be? What kind of topics are we allowed to pick, because some instructions may be easier to explain then others. If i choose to explain how to replace a hard drive compared to cleaning the lint filter in a dryer the instructions may be shorter and easier for one of them.
Question for Project
Sometimes I get frusterated with instructions because they seem too simple and put in directions that are common sense. I feel like I have to read through too many instructions I already know how to do to get to the directions I need. How do we avoid making the reader of our instructions read through unneccessary information.
