• Examining how effectively something does what it's supposed to do
• in our case, it's a document--a set of instructions
• Usability testing is structured
• Usability testing incorporates users into the design process
• Usability testing is iterative
• There are common forms (summary tests, read and locate, etc.)
• Generally answering four questions:
• Can the find the information?
• Can they understand the information?
• Can they do the process?
• Is it safe?
