    • Describe an experience in which you came to a clarification of your own thinking about a subject through writing.

    • In what discourse communities do you participate? What shared characteristics and values define each? Because of these shared characteristics and values, are there differences in the language you use in each? What areas of overlap or potential intellectual conflict exist among them?

    • Describe a time when you discovered your own intention in a piece of writing after you had begun composing. What did you do as a result of this discovery?

    • Based on your experiences as a reader, how do writers earn your respect? What qualities of writing do not earn your respect?
