Select ONE of the following prompts pertaining to The Shape of Reason chapter 4 ("Ethical Argument") and respond in approximately two paragraphs.

• Identify a possible metaphor for argumentation not discussed in the chapter. Explain how this frame might alter our understanding of arguments.
• Identify a specific example of an unethical argument. Discuss what makes it unethical and suggest how its point could be advanced in an ethical way.
• Identify and discuss an example of exceptionalism (a case in which a person breaks a rule that he or she would have others follow) applied in an argument. Determine if the violation is justified in this scenario.
• Identify which of the nine ethical precepts outlined in the chapter you find most meaningful and the one you find most difficult to apply. Discuss your replies.
