Each student will identify a relevant scholarly journal article that examines an aspect of activism for the class to read. The student will then compose a one-page handout over the article and lead a corresponding class discussion for approximately 10 minutes. Handouts and discussions should address the following questions:

    • What is the article's thesis statement (or main assertion)?
    • What research question does the thesis answer?
    • What evidence supports its thesis?
    • What are some of the article's limitations?
    • What other sources are addressing similar topics (what are some works the article is in conversation with or some of its peers)?

To locate articles, students are encouraged to the use library databases or a search engine such as Google Scholar. The library's inter-library loan service can obtain any article the library does not have in its catalog, often in only a few hours. The class will need access all articles students select. Students can provide electronic versions if the articles are not accessible through the library or available online.
