    Response Paper 4

    • Due Sep 16, 2021 by 2pm
    • Points 3
    • Submitting a text entry box, a website url, or a file upload

Choose one of the following options for your response paper:

    • Identify a quotation from Johnson's The Ghost Map that you believe is significant. Then, connect it with at least one of this week's supplementary readings (Brontë's Jane Eyre ch. 10 and Investigating Cholera Documents 20, 21, and 22). Clarify what they reveal together, and point to specific passages to make your discussion concrete.

    • In his conclusion to The Ghost Map, Steven Johnson brings readers into the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. He discusses recent instances of cholera, urban density, and “squatter cities,” as well as innovations in waste management, and mapping today. His book was initially published in 2006. Have his suppositions held up in the interim (nearly) twenty years? What factors might you add to his contemporary landscape regarding the status of disease, urban life, and mapping?
