The Research Paper identifies a coherent research question that addresses a specific subject, forwards a thesis that answers it, outlines the method the study used to obtain its answer, and provides associated results and discussion. It will draw upon the project tasks you previously have undertaken (Preliminary Research, Literature Review, and Method Design).

Your Research Paper should include at least four scholarly sources. (Additional sources, including popular ones, may be included, but at least four scholarly sources are required.) The body text should be approximately 2,000 words (plus additional bibliographical content) and reflect the citation system of your chosen publication venue. Your Research Paper should include the following elements in IMRaD sequence (our IMRaD[C] Outline may be helpful):

  1. Introduction: Orients your reader to the subject, acknowledges relevant literature to identify a knowledge gap, identifies the research question that the paper investigates, and forwards the thesis that provides an answer to it (your Preliminary Research and Literature Review can help you with this section)
  2. Methods: Articulates the processes the study went through to answer its research question such that another researcher could reasonably replicate it (your Method Design can help you with this section)
  3. Results: Presents the outcome of applying your methods to your research question
  4. Discussion: Interprets what the results reveal and discusses how the findings contribute to the subject's research discourse
  5. Conclusion: Recaps findings, identifies the current study's limitations, and outlines where future research could go from here

The Research Paper will be uploaded as a file. You should use existing authentic examples of academic scholarship as models, such as those you have identified in your Literature Review. The examples from previous students below also may be helpful.
