I really don't think it is fair that it is selective immigration. That is basically discrimination. America did start out on immigration, and I think our country turned out just fine. I can understand France not wanting so many people to come to their country at once, for over population purposes, but I just think they should come up with another plan.

I don't think that selective immigration is fair, but I think what France is doing will help. After the tighter laws it will be harder to move into France and so less people will want to move there. As for as immigration itself, it is not a bad thing. None of us (besides Native Americans) would be here in the United States if it werent for immigration. Also I believe immigration is an important factor when it comes to equality. This seems worse than what we did, but then again I am speaking out of ignorance because I am not looking it from France's point of view. God bless America.

As long as it's the popular vote in France, I think tighter immigration controls are perfectly fair. However, if the people of France disagree with this solution (and the country belongs to these people, not two top officials), then I think the new laws should be repealed.

I think it should be up to the people and not the officials. I think that if this is what the people want, then it's fine. I don't exactly agree with immigration, but then again I'm not living in that country, so if this is the country's decision to do this then it's fine. I do agree with them not wanting their country to be overpopulated, so this could actually be a solution to this problem.

I really think it does not matter to us. They are their own country and they can do whatever they want. Nobody is getting hurt by doing this so in my opinion we should not worry about it. How many countries are on this Earth? Should we really care if one tightens up their laws? But, yes, I do think it is a good thing that they are limiting this. It is good that their economy is stable enough that they can deny a source of income for their country.

this is pretty blatant discrimination. it makes me laugh a little that this is happening. maybe there is a legit reason why the French people are freaking out about the foreigners being there, but if not - are you kidding me? all of this stuff in France is of the same branch of apartheids and ethnic cleansing. okay, maybe that is a little far. but, this is definately discrimination, even though, yeah, it will calm down those French people, but i can't say that it will make the other parts of the world very happy.

France is quite a country and if they are deciding to tighten immigration then I don't see a problem. I can't really connect with this story. I had some family the moved to France for awhile but they moved to Belgium about a year ago. I understand the need to perserve the French culture by making foreign marriges harder, but the couples who really do want to get married will figure something out. To me, France makes the rules and the citizens should follow them or move elsewhere.

I feel that selective immigration can be a good thing if it is done right, because a country would be able to pick inidividuals that they want to be a part of their country. I do not think that immigration is a bad thing, but sometimes I feel that it can be done way too much.

I think that this really has nothing to do with us because we are not part of their country, but i do think that it should be up to their people. Overpopulation can be a huge problem and this would be a good way to control population. Im not sure how i feel about imigration as a whole though.

i do not disagree with this decision. if riots are occuring due to this problem with immigrants and over population, a fix is definitely needed. what better way to fix it than to control who and how many people can come into france. honestly though, it does not matter what i think. i think the people of france should have the final say. it IS their country, and they should decided what is best for them.

I have heard much about the riots in france, but not what they are linked to or what is causing them. After reading this article I understand what the deal is all about. It is sad that there are counrty's and area's in the world which are so less fortunate that people almost refuse to live there. I beilieve that select immigration would only lead to further problems and more riots, becasue it would only lead to less acemptance of immigrants.
