Point Of View

Point Of View

Sean Lambert, Valerie Nyczak
~~~
Point of View is fundamentally the idea that the subject changes depending upon the perspective of the viewer. This can be visually achieved through use of tools such as forced perspective, spatial relativity, etc.
Escher's "Relativity" is a good example of the point of view argument because it forces the viewer to re-orient their up and down depending upon the stair-case actively being viewed.
unity
unity
Unity is bringing everything together as one by creating a relationship as a whole. This can be done through related ideas, similar color schemes, teamwork, etc.
This picture is a good example of unity because they are all working together as a team, and the shovels and the same colored hats bring them together as one instead of individuals.
Pattern
Pattern
We got this image from Google image search.
This is a photograph of a wooden pattern that looks like a face. We chose this one because it is interesting to see how the patterns of nature often reveal elements (such as this one, human face) indirectly.
Classification
Classification
Classification
The assignment of things into groups based on their similarities; these similarities need not be physical. Things can simultaneously belong to many different classes.
Ordering things in this way helps the mind create general background assumptions about things based on their catagory.
Comparison and Contrast Starring Superman
Comparison and Contrast Starring Superman
Comparison and Contrast
Comparison is to find similarities between two things. This can be used to explain something unfamiliar with something better known.
Contrast is to find differences between two things. By contrasting, you can emphasize a point.
This is an image that compares the Christopher Reeves, Brandon Routh, and a cartoon version of Superman.
Description
Description
Description allows you to look at a particular image with close observation and get as much information out of that image as possible without necessarily needing text or someone verbally explaining what that image is all about.
Narration
Narration
Narration is something that tells a story. This can be done either in text or showing a picture such as multimedia.
We chose this picture because Cinderella is a well known narration. This picture shows the climax of the narration. When viewing this image it probably remind you of the movie or storybook. This is an example of how a narration can be displayed in many forms or multimedia.
Emphasis
Emphasis
Emphasis is the idea of making something in the media more accessible to the audience than other things. Often times, the designer can put our senses on what they want us to notice. For example, emphasis can be brought about with bold text, louder audio, arrows, pictures, and placement on the page.
In the picture, Time magazine chooses to use just 3 giant words on the cover of their magazine in a very bold text, plus the title of the magazine of course. By putting just 3 huge words on the page, you are basically forced to read those words. This means this is probably something very important and going to be heavily covered in the magazine.
Proportion
Proportion
Proportion shows the relationship of an object to its surroundings, how the different parts of a text fit together, and the size of all parts of a text.
In the image we chose, the proportion is off because a person would not be able to fit into a food bowl. Therefore this image shows improper or abnormal proportions.
Balance Defined
Balance Defined
Balance Defined by the dictionary :
1. a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.
2. something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise.
Balance defined by me:
Balance in an artistic image can vary. An image can still seemed balanced when it has an asymmetrical layout due to the direction and contrast that it contains. An image balances its self on the elements within and the direction they hold. An image can seemed balanced by its color whether it seems half white half black. There are many elements that compose an image to create a sense of balance.
