personal intro

1. Hi :) I'm Lisa Graham. I'm from Huntersville (which is right outside of Charlotte if you've never heard of it). I am a junior majoring in English Literature and Entrepreneurship Business Development. I love to read. Right now I'm reading a book on conspiracy theories, whether i believe it all or not it's still a decent book. I work at Elizabeth's Pizza (but im a horrible waitress...).

2. This course is my personal link between my two majors that would normally seem unconnected. I think that writing (professional or not) is something that is not done often enough by people outside of the literary world. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure what to expect from this course besides an indefinite expansion of knowledge that my brain craves.

3. With the exception of attendance, class participation and studying...what is the best piece of advice you would give to the class on how to, not only do well in this course, but also take the raw information given to us and turn it into life long knowledge??

Personal Introduction

1. Hey! My name is Christina Koch. I am majoring in psychology with a counseling concentration and working towards the professional writing certificate. I am interning this semester at a group home facility for substance abuse clients. In my free time I love to surf, fish, run, read, and love on my dog!
2. I plan to learn more about professional writing b/c I do not know much about it. I hope to improve my writing skills and to one day be able to use what I learned in my job. I wanted to get a minor and enjoy writing so I chose professional writing.
3. Would it be a good idea to make a portfolio of out work during the semester?

Personal Intro

1) Hello, my name is Laura Challender. I am from Greenville, North Carolina. I am also the one who mentioned Ron Weasley in class today. For a few laughs (either at the illustrations or at my expense) you can see what I meant here. Ron's about halfway down.
Besides enjoying a good book, I like travelling and playing cello. Also, I absolutely love writing.

2) I hope to learn ways to make my love for writing marketable. I want to learn skills that will apply in whatever job I happen to get. I have recently switched from the Literature Option to the Professional Writing Option so that I can utilize my skills in a wider range of scenarios. Since this class is the prerequisite for almost every professional writing course, I was very motivated to take this class!

3) Do we have to find our own Service Learning company or will you assign it to us?

Personal Introduction

1) Hi everyone, my name is Brendan Carr. I am from here in the Wilmington area of North Carolina. I am a sophmore and my major is Aerospace Engineering with hopefully a concentration on designing. I am on the pre-engineering 2+2 year program so this is my last year at UNCW after which I want to go to US Naval Academy and if I don't get there I will go to NC State to finish 2 more years of Engineering. My activities and likes include UNCW Triathlon Club, working out, UNCW Aviation Club, Chess, Scouting(Eagle Scout), turning work in on time with a good grade, and generally just keeping busy. Am thinking about starting a few others such as scuba diving and some sort of martial arts but not sure.

2) Eng 204 is only recommended for my major but I decided to take it because 1) I know I will need to communicate with a professional attitude in many different senarios and 2) I haven't had a lot of software classes yet which I think are fun.

3) I don't have any questions at this time and I'm not going to try to make one up just to have one. I'm sure I'll have some later but all my questions were answered earlier today.

Hey guys, my name is Noah

Hey guys, my name is Noah Bianco and I am from Hillsborough, NC, which is outside of Chapel Hill. I am a junior majoring in biology at school. When I am not working or in class, I like to fish, play lacrosse, listen to music, and surf the coast.

I signed up for this class to work on professional writing as a whole, because it is a valuable skill set to have in the real world. In addition, I decided to pick up an English minor and this class is a recommended class to take.

It is too early in the class and I do not have any questions to ask yet, but when I think of something, I will bring it up.

Personal Information

My name is Chris Lutz and I am from Greensboro NC. I am a senior this year and am working for a B.S. in Environmental Science. I love anything to do outdoors and am currently trying to compete in Bass fishing tournaments across the state. After finishing undergrad school I plan to attend LSU for graduate school.
From this class, I expect to learn skills in writing professional style letters and memos that could help me in the workforce. I enrolled into this class to strengthen my writing abilities and have a broader scope of understanding for professional writing.
I would like to know whether or not we will be working on any type of resume building skills and by the end of this course will I be prepared to write in the professional world?

Personal Intro

Hi, my name is Emily. I am from Denver, NC and am majoring in pre-engineering. I am part of the two plus two program, so this will be my last year at Wilmington and then I will transfer to NC State for the last two. I love hanging out at the beach and traveling.

This class was required for my major, but I think it will also help me learn to write in a more formal and professional way. I also hope to improve my writing skills for my jobs later in life.

I do not have any questions about the class yet, but it is still early and I will make sure to ask them when they come up.

personal info

Hey everyone, my name is Mat Blaine, I am from Hartford, CT and am in my junior year at UNCW. I am a history major with a journalism minor and i have no idea what i am going to do with that yet. Considering law school or teaching, but who knows. I have played soccer since i was 4 and golf since i was 6 or 7, those are really my only 2 interests.

As far at this class goes, i am taking it to assess my options after graduation. Professional writing is a very broad subject and if i can find a way to fit it into something i would like to pursue, then hopefully this course will help me.

I don't have many questions about the course, i guess my only one would be how can i use this course to figure out a career or a path i want to follow after graduation.

1. Hi, my name is Josh Pack. I am from Leland, NC which is right outside of Wilmington. I enjoy hunting with my friends, boating, fishing, and pretty much all outdoor activities. I am in the Pre-Engineering program and hope to transfer to NC State after this year to get my degree in Civil Engineering.

2. I signed up for this class because my advisor suggested it to me, so I don't really know much about it. But I hope to learn something that I can use in the future.

3. I can't really think of anything to ask right now, but I'm sure something will come up soon.

Hey!

Hey everybody! My name is Sophia Kropaczek (I know, fun name) and I'm from Wilmington. I love the town and, of course, the beach, so I decided to stay here for school. I haven't decided on a major yet; right now, I'm considering English, Pre-Vet, or Pre-Med. I work as a vet tech and I enjoy walking on the beach (I feel like I should say something about roses and chocolate here too...).

I'm considering become a writer and would likely do more technical writing. I'm hoping that this class will give me a better idea of what such a career may entail and show me how I may fare in the "real" world.

So far I don't have any questions...

Introduction

Hello
My name is Matthew Everette and I come from Rocky Mount North Carolina. I am a sophomore and I am not sure what my major is at this point. I enjoy cooking, playing video games, basketball, and joking around with my friends. I signed up for this class because my advisor recommended it to me when I expressed an interest in writing and English in general. I expect to develop and fine tune my proffesional writing skills since it is something I have never really done before. I am also expecting this to be a somewhat challenging course considering the group projects and service learning but I definitely think it will be worth my time and effort.

One question I do have is what all kinds of jobs are available to a freelance proffesional writer? I know this was covered somewhat on the first day of class but I am interested in learning about the availability and kinds of work.

I am a Comedian

I am Dave. I am a Comedian and I like to be funny.

Well I am in terested in finding out how to Write profeshionally because I want to write a book depicting my work at Walt Disney World. I started a blog here.

And I enrolled because I thought It would be fun.

What exactly will we be judged on for writing, because I write for what is in the paper, not style. My grammer sucks and i cant spell to save my life.

1) Hello, my name is Karrah Mauro. I am a sophomore this year at UNCW and I work part-time at Walgreens. I have always loved to read and write and I have always loved animals. My favorite animal is a wolf. I love hanging out with my friends and playing computer games, anything to do with nature, and trying my hand at art.

2) Honestly, this class is not what I thought it was when my advisor suggested i take it. I thought of this more as a creative writing class, and I now know it's more computer and professionally based. I intend to still take the class though, because I am trying to double major in Biology and Journalism so that I can end up with a job similar to a National Geographic writer.

3) The only question I could really think of concerning this course is whether or not there is appropriate grammar for different types of businesses?

Personal Intro

Hello! My name is Keri Hogan and I'm a junior, majoring in studio-art. When I'm not in the Cultural Arts building, you can find me in Hanover Gym at volleyball practice, or on the road traveling with the UNCW volleyball team. I am an outside hitter/ defensive specialist for the Seahawks, and this will be my third year on UNCW's team. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, but have also been lucky enough to spend a few years out in the Arizona heat.

Professional writing, which is needed in just about every profession, comes in various forms and is key in today's workforce. I feel that taking the time to dissect the various skills and processes that go into writing professionally will really be beneficial to my future in the business world.

I don't have any specific questions yet, but I am definitely interested about learning more about the different career paths associated particularly with professional writing.

Introduction

1. My name is Luke Murphy. I am a junior here at UNCW, and I am an english lit major. I was born in San Diego and was recruited by the swim team here at UNCW. I enjoy writing (Maybe Professional Writing, ill have to wait and see) and being at the beach.

2. I decided to take professional writing becuase I felt that it would be something very important to learn more about. Proffesional writing is something that I know almost nothing about, so I hope that by the end of this semester I will at least have a basic understanding of it.

3. I have a question for Mr. Tirrell: What is the most interesting client that you have had to work for?

2. There is always some way to improve your writing and every writing class I enroll in I hope to have teachers that don't baby me and tell me "good job". I want to fix the errors I have and perfect my writing ability.

3. What will we be posting that others may use in teaching and research?

Jeremy Francis Morris

1. Hello, my name is Jeremy Morris and I'm an English major. I play guitar, piano, and music has always been a big part of my life. Also, I want to be a Personal Trainer and I'm kinda a health freak. With that being said, I look forward to meeting everyone.

2. My expectations of this class is to gain a more professional perspective of writing. I really enjoy creative writing and that sometimes puts me into a juxtaposition when trying to transpose my thoughts into a formal situation.

3. I would like to know the one thing you would like for us to gain from your class.
