Proposal

For the chalking, we will go to the library, the student union, and wagoner hall a week before the event and do a large chalking describing the event. We will provide the info, time and date, location, and some benefits for attending. We will also take photo evidence to bring into class to show the current and any future students the design we used. To get permission, we will go to the CAIC office and find out what approval is required to chalk on campus.

For the faculty flyers to be put in the mailboxes, we will design the flyer that describes the event. We will use a more professional format for this document because we do not necessarily need to catch their eye, because they are more inclined to actually read the flyers put in their mailboxes. In the flyer, we will cover the importance of the event and its significance to the professional writing program. We will print a good amount of copies and give them to you to distribute.

Draft Proposal

Flyer
The purpose for this flyer is to grab student’s attention and persuade them to go to the English in Action showcase. The flyer is going to be aimed towards the students at UNCW, although faculty and staff will see it too. It will be black and white on a colored background and have a lot of pictures to grab the student’s attention because, the students will see this flyer only for a couple seconds as they walk by it. This flyer will also be mixed in with other flyers, so it needs to stand out. The flyer should have the logo and information about when the showcase is, along with what it is. The logo should be at the top and the time and date for the event should be in the middle, followed by a small description of what the showcase is.

Newspaper Article
The purpose for writing the article is to advertise the event and let the students and faculty know what the English in Action showcase is. It will be aimed towards the students but, administrators, staff, faculty, and the surrounding community will also be able to see it. This article will be just simple text with no multimedia. It will need to contain information about what the showcase is and who is putting it on, where and when it is, and why people should come out to see it. It should say something about free food in the beginning to grab the reader’s attention and then go into more information about the event.

Our purpose is to communicate to UNCW students what English in Action is and persuade them to come out to the event. Our purpose in going to CAIC is to try and get the event on the event calendar and if CAIC makes event calendar flyers for bathrooms, we want to try and get our event on the calendar flyer.
The target audience in this project is the students of UNCW and we are specifically targeting them by using the rock, which is well known by the students. We are also targeting this audience by using CAIC because they regulate school events and publicize events to the student body. The shared traits of our audience members are that they are all students attending UNCW, and many of the students attending college are unsure of their majors, so our event will appeal to them because it concerns one option for a major.
Our audience will encounter our work when walking around campus, because the rock is located in view of a road, by the dining hall, and close to the gym and many classrooms. Our audience will also hopefully encounter our work in the bathrooms and various places around campus, because we are hoping CAIC will add our event to their event calendar flyers.
We will use brightly colored spray paint on the rock to grab attention with our message, and we are going to come up with a design and short message to put on the rock. Hopefully, if we can get our event on the CAIC flyers, we could possibly use the event logo that our class decides on along with information about the event.
We will test spray paint color schemes and design plans for the rock before applying it to the rock. We also might run the information we are using for the CAIC flyers by people that don’t know anything about the event to see if we are missing any important information.

Our motivation in this situation is to encourage student's attendance and to inform the community, sponsers, and faculty about English in Action. We hope our audience will become interested in the English department at UNCW. The best possible outcome would be to have an enthusiastic audience. The worst possible outcome would be if the English department is viewed in a negative light because of the work we do.
Our audience will be mostly made up of students, so our project will need to be attractive enough to grab their attention. It also needs to be professional enough to attract faculty.
We will be communicating with our audience via posters and on-campus television ads. Our posters will be put up in acedemic hallways, the cafeteria, and in the hallways of the dorms because these are the high traffic area for students and faculty. The television ad will run at the movie theater in Lumina and on the UNCW tv channel.
We will use a lot of color in our ads and on our posters. We will have to talk to ACE to place an ad in the pre-roll at Lumina theater. We will talk to student media to have our ad place on the UNCW tv channel.
We will be using powerpoint slides and posters the size of 11''17''
We will arrange each so that the logo is the center focus.
We will test it out on our peers.
