Last summer we offered two different history camps. One for boys (but a girl attended) and one for girls (no takers from the male gender). I’ve attached their agendas from 2011 and some photos. This summer we plan to offer 3 different camps.
Coastal Warriors will more or less remain the same (dates and prices are from last year, so ignore).
Coastal Warriors (ages 9-11; also for 12-14 - junior officer’s corps)
Atten-hut! About face! March back in time to relive some of the battles fought right here on our own soil. Visit local historic sites and learn the discipline of soldiering from colonial and revolutionary militia. Discover the importance of our maritime history including pirate ships, Civil War blockade runners and World War ll U-boats sinkings. Set up an encampment and enjoy your rations.

Port Belles will have a new name and age range.
Cape Fear Herstory (ages 9-11)
Spend a week getting to know some impressive ladies from our region’s past. Meet women who played a prominent role in North Carolina’s history, including some pirates, rebels, rioters, and even spies. Learn how female soldiers fought beside their husbands. This summer we will offer a historical costume design camp for slightly older girls.
Threads of Time (ages 12-14)
Spend a week with needle and thread learning how women throughout history sewed clothing for themselves and their families. Research fabrics and notions that were available to them during different time periods. Try to spin your own wool, weave your own cloth, and make your own buttons. Discover how the beautiful belle costumes are created for the Azalea Festival. Start making your own historic costume.
This will probably be held the first week of August; 8:30am-4:30pm; $275 before May 1st; $300 after

this link is to an article the local paper did on the history camps. Please note they murdered my name. The Sue Kdzizos is actually Kezios (me).
This article speaks to some of the reasoning behind the camps (justification).
Jack Fryar is the person most responsible for putting together the Coastal Warriors camp. He is a non-traditional student (and local author/ historian) at UNCW.

Kim Sherman is a graduate student in public history who is most responsible for helping with the girls camp.

I am the person in charge of the new Threads of Time camp, at this time.
