The article I chose was http://www.cddesign.com/covertalk/archives/to_design_or_not_to_design_t..... Of course it is not directly applicable to our project, it has some good ideas. They initially pose a question about the value of design. The writer of the article places a high value on design and makes a reference to McDonald's, Nike, Apple, Target, etc.
I decided to write my blog about Ty Cohen’s article “5 Sure Fire Ways To Get Radio Play For Your ‘Independent’ Music.” First off Ty Cohen seems like he is a decently big name in the music industry based on his little profile at the end of the article, well at least he’s a CEO of a publishing company.
When reading this I found it very insightful. He puts across various elements to create a good album cover. I though that the one thing he put across the best was that you should focus on your target audience and not just use things you like. He stated that if your band you are making an album for is Goth then the cover should have Goth stuff in it. He also stated that you should use the correct font. Don’t just go and use your own font that you like. Go out and research, go to a record store and see what pops out.

I really enjoyed reading these and I feel that I have gained real knowledge by doing so. Marvin offers his opinion in a clear, understandable way and his advice is worthwhile. I really liked the way he used printing terms in his explanations. I don’t deal with these terms on a daily basis and yet I was able to understand them with little thought.

Wow, it is nice to hear advice from someone within the business of designing music album covers. Patric Duffy's article was a refreshing read and most insightful. All five of his topics were concise and informative. It is a wonder where some music artists go to retrieve a designer that ends up crapping on your new piece of work. Unfortunate, but it apparently happens. Now, noted that even among decent designs, mistakes or unforeseen flaws after production does occur it is just a matter of keeping the text controlled I guess.
