I found Patrick Duffy's advice for designing an album cover very realistic. After reading through his guidelines I came to realize that he is almost telling people how NOT to screw up. It reminded me of improvising on a musical instrument. You want to play a scale that fits the chord progression, but that does not mean other notes would not work. So once I thought of this I tried to find some examples of album covers that we looked at in class on Wednesday to see if they followed his guidelines.

During the class discussion today we talked about authority. People are more likely to listen to people they believe are credible sources. It makes sense and it is a part of life. I thought an article from a designer’s perspective might provide insight on the process of design. While looking at some of the covers today, I wondered why the designer chose that design, how much freedom they had and what their overall concept was. After reading Patrick Duffy’s article, I was able to at least get an idea of what a designer is thinking and what tips he recommends.

I did my review over “AOL Music Canada's Best. Album Covers. Ever.”. And I have to say, I was pretty disappointed. According to the title of the article I was expecting to see some very interesting cover art. Most of the covers I saw were very boring in my opinion. Many were just in there because of the popularity of the band or the fact that the cover is well known; not because the album cover was the “best”. In my opinion as a Computer Graphics major, to be considered as one of the best album covers, the album cover has to look interesting and be something that sticks out to you.

Hi all,
After browsed though all the readings, I picked “Rock List: Twenty-Five Favorite Album Covers”.
This websites contains a collection of album covers or pictures that they selected. I like the website because instead of saying those are best album covers, they claim that those are just favorite album covers that its fans selected.

I decided to write my blog on the article Best. Album Covers. Ever.. I read through all the articles and found this to be one of the more interesting ones. I also figured that it'd be better to get ideas for my project by looking and analyzing album covers that were dubbed as "the best" rather than those that were thought of as "the worst". Looking through these 12 alone already gave me some good ideas for the project (although I feel that picking an actual subject is going to be harder than that).
