The Myriad is a new up and coming band. They recently won MTV2's Dew Circuit Breakout. I've been listening to them for a few years now. They have a new cd coming out in I think May (its been pushed back several times now sadly). Anyways, they have posted online the artwork for this album that will be coming out. The album is called "With Arrows, With Poise". On the cover, it shows some kind of monster coming to attack a little guy. The guy is wearing a wolf skin headdress and aiming an arrow at the monster. One interesting thing about the wolf skin headdress is that the eyes are "X"'s. That, as we know, represents that its dead. Does it mean something more than just that the animal is dead?
The band, because of the album continually getting pushed back, released an ep entitled "Prelude to Arrows".( http://downtownrivals.com/store/TheMyriad/Music/all/841 ) It features a few songs from the upcoming album, a remix of an old song, and a sneak preview track. The cool thing about this preview track is it talks about the meaning of the title "With Arrows, With Poise". According to the band, when they first started writing this album, they were going through a tough time. It was the hardest time in their history as a band. So they had to learn poise. They knew that they needed to focus on what their goal was as a band, and like an archer, steady their bow and arrow. An archer uses both arrows and poise. I think the archer then would represent the band and the state they were in when they began writing this album. The monster coming at them is the album. As they said, they had to aim with poise like an archer to attack this album. What are your thoughts?
Well I can definitely say that the prelude reflects just that. The same character sleeping outside before he faces the monster, with the smoke from the fire appearing to be a premonition of the future. I think it makes sense to assume that the band chose this to represent themselves as the archer and the upcoming album as the monster. It can be difficult to come out with an album and the task may seem haunting at times.

Personally I would thought that the boy has killed the wolf in order to get the skin put on his head. This picture is trying to tell a story of how a young boy having fought the wolf and now has to challenge a greater monster.
