website as the medium?

The (website) promotional material that I am going to discuss is here:

Ok, here is a typical album website that I stumble upon while searching for promotional material in the web. This is an album by Seether. The purpose of the website is to promote the release of their new album “Finding Beauty In Negative Space”. The reason I choose this website is because it has a lot of interesting promotion features that can only be made possible using website as the medium. This is the advantage of using website as a promotional material.
First of all, I think that the ability to load the preview of the songs to the website is crucial. It gives the audience a quick idea of the genre of the songs. Thus, this will filter out the audiences who are not interested in the music. This eliminates the confusion on the audiences’ side.
Secondly, I notice the website provides spaces for the news and tour information about the band. I think this is very useful to let the audience know any kind promotions such as when the band appears on TV. Also to let them know if there is a tour nearby. This provides insightful information to convey the audience to purchase the album.
Lastly, the website also provides a space for the discussion about the album. This is for the curious audiences who want to know more or talk about the album.
I think it is a good medium to choose for our project. The drawback is that it is harder to build a working website than just to produce a poster or a T-shirt. Also it is harder for audience to encounter the website (I think the website need another promotional material to let the audience find this website). What do you think?
Websites are definitely one of the best promotional materials. It allows viewers to be up to date on band information and find out things that couldn't be found elsewhere. With a poster, for example, you can only put so much information on it before it begins to look tacky or overcrowded. With a website, however, you can have multiple pages and generally as much information as you need to convey.

Alot of band websites I go to are really annoying to navigate, and this one has basically all the information I could possibly want from them all on the front page. Also, having a forum and fostering an online community was a great idea on the part of whomever designed the page, as it allows fans to gather, talk, and then disseminate their love of the band and information to others around them (in real life). This is cheap and effective advertising.
Any monkey and hard code a website in HTML, but a great design and good CSS/scripting is hard to come by. They should *cough* stop by KNOY third floor more often.
*cough*

Unless some type of music is integral to the site, I do not want to hear a loud song from a website without me choosing to start the song. The music is not an integral part of the site in this case. If I want to sample the music, I'll sample the music. Besides that, it's a decent site. There's a lot of information, and a chance to create an account. This makes fans feel a greater connection to the band. This site would be infinitely more effective to if they didn't start music when I load the page, since I would basically find another site when I found the page for this CD.
