rainbow presentation
I suspect my group’s presentation will be fairly simple and concise. We are responsible for creating a Facebook event page for English in Action, as well as chalking the sidewalk on Chancellor’s walk. The subject of our presentation is the English in Action showcase. The audience will need to know the date and time of the showcase as well as the fact that there will be free refreshments provided. The purpose of our presentation is to encourage students to attend the English in Action showcase. The primary audience that we will try to reach with our materials is the general student population of UNCW. Obviously, our actual presentation audience will be Ms. Manning and the class. We will be showing them the effectiveness of our Facebook event and chalking, as these as common strategies to advertise events on campus. We are already pretty familiar with the physical context of the room because we have class in it. But we should familiarize ourselves with the technologies available at the front of the room, including the projector and main computer. There won’t be a microphone so we will need to speak audibly and clearly enough to be heard by the whole class (p 414). As the presentation will take place before the actual event, we cannot clearly demonstrate the success of our advertising strategies by event attendance. We will have to demonstrate that we have generated interest in the student population through our materials.
Green group's presentation
Our group was responsible for creating a program for the English in Action Showcase. The subject of the presentation will be this program, with emphasis on the information inside. Our audience will be to the client, Mrs. Manning. The purpose of our presentation is to present the finished program to her and to discuss how it was created and the contents, as well as why we chose to include some of the things that we did, and how it will be effective. Our main goal will be to have Mrs. Manning like and want to use our program. We also will take into account the context that will shape our presentation. The physical context will be the classroom, which we are already pretty familiar with. We will most likely be standing in front of Mrs. Manning delivering the presentation. Because we created the program, we will not have to use any technology such as the computer or projector. Since we are delivering our presentation directly to Mrs. Manning, we will need to speak clearly and audibly.
Flat Tire presentation
My groups presentation will me simple and straight to the point. For my groups project we are writing a story for The Seahawk about the event and the exit survey. The subject of our presentation will be the English in Action showcase itself. Our target audience in the news story will be the readers of The Seahawk which is, students, faculty members and community members. They will need to know information about the event. This includes the date, time and location. It will also give information about what the event will actually be like. The audience for the exit survey will be the people that attend the event and we will actually be getting information from them once the fill out the survey. The purpose of our presentation will be to inform Ms. Manning of how our materials will work to help get people to come to the showcase. She and the class will be the audience during the actual presentation. We will need to speak audibly and clearly for everyone to understand us and demonstrate how our presentations will be effective.
The Big Bad Green Team
The Green Group is responsible for creating the English in Action Showcase program. In our presentation, the subject will solely be the program, as this is the only aspect we undertook (the other groups have 2 items). Because this event is her responsibility, Ms. Manning is our client. The purpose behind our presentation will circle around why programs are necessary in events such as these. Programs can help eliminate confusion in addition to serving as souvenirs for participants. It will be our goals to convince her that our particular product will be effective. Contextually, the classroom will be used to present directly to Ms. Manning. The program will obviously be a hard copy so our group will not have to rely on technology in our presentations. And this should go without saying, each member of the Green Team must be audible and fully supportive of each team member as well as our program as a whole.
The B Team's presentation
Our group's presentation will be concise and simple. Our subject, of course, is the video we are making. We will explain that the video is more of an advertisement than an informative promotion, designed to get students curious about the event. The purpose of our presentation will be to convince the audience that our approach to the video was more effective than having a more serious video, as it would likely make more students come to the event. We'll go on to describe how we filmed it, what the drafting process for the script was like, and how the contributions from other class members came into play. Finally, the context of our presentation seems simple enough: we're going to be presenting alongside the other groups. As a result, we will be matching the class's professionalism, despite our video not being too serious in theme. Also, we will likely show the video during the presentation.
Rainbow
The subject of my group’s presentation will be the sidewalk chalking and Facebook event we are creating to advertise English in Action. We will focus on talking about benefits like student familiarity with these types of media and the cost effectiveness of each. The purpose is to convince the coordinator Ms. Manning and the rest of the class that our tactics will have the most impact and will draw in the largest amount of participants. The primary audience for this presentation will be Ms. Manning who will want something that is cost efficient and will draw the largest crowd. The secondary audience will be the students in class who will want something that is quick, easy and will have the most impact. They want to take a part in participating, but don’t want to be tied down with advertising methods they do not believe will work. Our physical context needs will probably involve access to a computer and a projector for showing the presentation materials large enough for the entire audience to see. It will be difficult to show sidewalk chalking during our presentation, so we will need to figure out a way to display that. We will not really need to worry about the economic context because we will not be spending money on our presentation. We will also not really need to worry about ethical and political contexts because we are just talking about Facebook and chalk.
B Team Presentation
The subject of the B team's presentation will be the advertisement video for the showcase. The purpose of the video will be to give students information about the English in Action showcase that will convince them to attend. The purpose of the presentation is to convince the client that this type of video can be used to convince the students whom are not interested to come to the showcase. The video will be targeting students, therefore being scripted in a comical form that will get the attention of the average student. Our presentation will provide detailed information on our script and how the comical effect will be more persuasive than a formal video that may be appealing to administrators. Besides video content, the presentation will give the client a specific place where the video will be placed for optimal student viewing. The client will be given a copy of the video script for reviewing and to have a better idea of the video's intended content.
The B-Team's Video Presentation Breakdown
The B-Team's presentation will be fairly straightforward. The subject of this presentation is the video we are producing. We will give a brief synopsis of the idea behind the video and probably play a rough cut of the final piece. The purpose of this presentation is to show the rest of the class what we have been working on and why we think this particular video will work well to advertise the upcoming English in Action showcase. The audience for this presentation will include our classmates who are also preparing materials for the showcase, Dr. Tirrell, and possibly Mrs. Manning or someone else representing the showcase or the English department. For the context of the presentation, the only aspects that apply are the physical and the political (and the political is only a mild concern unless someone from the showcase is present). More than likely we will be standing either at the front of the room or in our usual corner, so we must be sure to talk so the whole class can hear and understand us. Ethically we must conduct ourselves in the manner expected by university standards. This is also true of the political aspect. As long as we have a professional attitude, we will be fine.
Flat Tire SPAC
We are undertaking two promotional projects. The subjects of these are an exit survey and a newspaper article for the school newspaper, The Seahawk. Because they are two different subjects, they will have two different purposes. The exit survey will serve to get an idea of the demographics of the people who attend the English in Action showcase. It also will help us get opinions on how well or poorly the showcase is doing. The article on the other hand, will serve to promote the showcase. The article will promote it to students who already have at least a mild interest in campus events. The audience for the exit survey will be people who are already interested in the showcase, since they cared enough to attend. The article's audience will be students who read The Seahawk, and are interested in school events. The context for the exit survey will be brief, and will be a short questionnaire given as people leave the showcase. The article's context will be a shorter feature story in The Seahawk, for students and faculty who enjoy campus events.
How to present to convince
The subject of my presentation will be very succinct. The objective is to make the client completely visualize all aspects of the project, be able to see every part connecting to each other, and make recommendations quickly to improve the final result. I will also avoid talking about irrelevant details that could have the client confused.
The purpose of the presentation is to convince the client that my propositions are the best for the event, according to possible effectiveness in attracting audience, cheap costs, and little time required.
The primary audience is obviously the client who wants a professional material that can be used for promoting an event. This material must also follow some guidelines that respect the school policy, and should be broad enough to attract different kind of people to the showcase. The other audiences considered could be the possible clienteles that will read the promotional material, and this is why we must always remain aware of it, even during the presentation to the client.
The context will be important, especially the physical one. Showing our work to the client is essential to give a good overview and impression. Hence we must be prepared to use the room used for the presentation, and try to take advantage of the technical devices.
Spectrum Presentation
The good news is that the information covered in this section is not new. Analyzing subject, purpose, audience, and context is a task we have been working on all semester. For Spectrum's presentation, the subject is really very simple. We must present Ms. Manning with information as to how our two media (table tents and an email) will benefit the English in Action Showcase. That information includes how and why it will be effective both for the current showcase and those in the future.
The purpose of Spectrum is to persuade Ms. Manning that the materials we have created will be effective and worthy of production for use.
The primary audience for our presentation is Ms. Manning. She appears to be the decision maker, though there is a group that works on the Show case as well. Ms. Manning knows what she wants and it should be our job to give it to her. The tertiary audience is Dr. Tirrell. Our presentation will be graded by him and must also appeal to him within the parameters of our class.
The context is one with which we are familiar. Though there have not been formal presentations made in our classroom, we have all sat there and at least watched Dr. Tirrell teach using the audio/visual components. Other than an unreliable wireless mouse and volume that is temperamental, context should not be a problem.
TEAM SPECTRUM
For our presentation of the email and table tents, we must first consider our subject, purpose, context and audience. The subject of our items are two different subjects. The overall subject is the English in Action showcase itself, but one subject is going to be the table tents, and the other is the email to local highschools. The purpose of our presentation is to convince our client (Ms. Manning) that our materials will be sufficient to advertise her event and bring visitors to see the showcase. The primary audience for this presentation is Ms. Manning, and quite possibly any other administrators that are helping her with her decision. There will also be other classmates present and Dr. Tirrell. The context of our items is going to be through the email, and at wagoner hall on table tents on each table.
Rainbow Group Presentation
My group is responsible for the facebook event for the English in Action Showcase, as well as sidewalk chalking information about the event. Our primary audience is our classmates; therefore, they need to know everything that we plan to accomplish with the facebook page and the chalking, and how it will help generate more attendance to the showcase. That will be the main subject of our presentation.
According to TCT, we should keep the purpose of our presentation very short (around one sentence). Because of this, we will premise our presentation by saying something like this: "Our goal is to inform you of exactly how our materials will effectively generate greater attendance to the showcase."
Aside from our primary audience, we also have secondary and tertiary audiences, as well as gatekeepers. The secondary audience (advisers) would probably be Dr. Tirrell, Ms. Manning, and anyone else in the English department organizing the showcase. The tertiary audience would be the students attending the showcase, or others who may be planning to attend. The gatekeepers are probably the same people who comprise the secondary audience.
As far as context goes, we are all already very familiar with the context of our classroom. We have all spoken with each other before and know what to expect from the audience and the surroundings. We will just need to make sure we speak clearly enough for everyone to hear, and that we look professional and organized.
Green Team
Our group is in charge of creating the program for the English in Action Showcase. The program is the main subject of the presentation. With this event as her responsibility, Ms. Manning is our client. We will present the finished program to her and to discuss how and why it was created the way it was and how it will be effective. Our main goal will be to have Mrs. Manning approve of our program and to convince her that our product will be effective. The program will be a hard copy. Each member of the Green Team must be fully supportive and audible of each team member along with our program as a whole.
