The Adam Carolla Podcast

3. The Adam Carolla Podcast is is one of the most-downloaded comedy podcasts on iTunes. After 10 years of hosting Loveline with Dr. Drew, Adam left the show to pursue a position in morning radio with CBS, replacing Howard Stern (with Stern's approval) in a number of West Coast markets. He soon left and started the Adam Carolla Podcast. In the initial 24 hours, the first Adam Carolla podcast was downloaded over 250,000 times and, as of the third podcast, it was the number one podcast on iTunes in both the U.S. and Canada. During the debut week, the Adam Carolla podcast recorded 1.6 million downloads. In the second week it recorded 2.4 million downloads. Adam has been providing a new episode, every single day, for over a year now. His podcast is as laid-back, unedited, and unscripted as they come. Adam sits down with the guest of the day (which includes musicians, actors, politicians, internet entrepreneurs, and even fans) to have a natural conversation. Adam comically discusses with the guest whatever comes to mind for about one hour. The topics of discussion range greatly, but one of the things I enjoy about Adam's podcast is that he offers a candid view at behind the scenes of Hollywood. Adam openly talks about his problems with the industry and even specific actors/directors. Although Adam's podcast doesn't follow many of the rules for a good podcast that we established in class, it doesn't seem to matter. Adam is still on top of the iTunes charts and his podcast is growing every day.

4. I think much of The Adam Carolla Podcast's success is due to Adam's built-in fanbase. Having listened to the podcast, do you think it would be interesting to someone who has never heard of Adam Carolla?

Adam Carolla Podcast

I enjoyed the podcast but then again I can't ignore the fact that I am familiar with Adam Carolla's work and star status. But, even though he is famous and well-known I don't think that that guarantees him a successful podcast or an automatic dedicated audience to a podcast if it was not interesting or entertaining. Carolla is famous for a reason, he is a talented speaker and a hilarious comedian, therefore he is a perfect candidate for a podcast. If he had a bad episode or a dull and uninteresting interview on a podcast I doubt that it would be met with much enthusiasm. Because he is famous people are much quicker to judge his work and unfunny and critique it for issues that they had with it. It really boils down to peoples definition of humor and what they find interesting and funny, as with any podcast, famous or not.

Adam Carolla

I had never listened to anything by Adam Carolla before this podcast, and I enjoyed it. His fan base is probably important to a lot of people, but I found it interesting without knowing that he is famous. He seems hilarious, and now I think I must start finding more Adam Carolla material. Is this type of podcast something that you are going to try to do? If you could have an improv, comedy podcast, that would be awesome.

Carolla Podcast

.

I had never heard Adam Carolla before until I listened to this Podcast, but I too thought that he was hilarious. I love the fact that it is unscripted because he is so random and it allows his guests to relax and have fun. I found the Podcast to be a casual conversation, but Carolla's humor kept me interested throughout. Nothing is off limits for him and knowing that he is saying whatever he wants to makes it a very interesting type of Podcast in my opinion. I don't know if you are trying to do a comedy Podcast like this, but I think that it would be really fun to do and fun for everybody listening.

Why not.

That Guy's picture

Honestly it comes down to whether people think he is funny or not. I think having a fan base can help and hurt your chances with the audience. The hype that comes with anything always has a chance of being a big let down. Though the hype and wait can sometimes override the actual product and people will enjoy it because they have conditioned themselves to. What it really comes down to is, does it make you laugh? Does it catch your interest? Do you want more?

I would listen to this

I would listen to this podcast, I have listened to this podcast before, and I find him interesting. I think that he is funny, but if I hadn't heard of him before, I'm not sure if I would have wanted to listen to him. Also, it probably helps that he is already at an elevated status and talks to people who are also relatively famous.

Although Adam Corolla is

Although Adam Corolla is famous, I do not think that being famous affects his podcast following. He is a funny guy, and his podcast is just as funny. I think that his celebrity status does not have anything to do with the success of his podcast, because there are plenty of famous people who could have a podcast and it not be funny- no matter how famous they are. I enjoyed this podcast, and I would listen to it regularly.
