What to Pack

This podcast discusses what you should pack for either a long or short term trip. It begins with a short introduction and then a few brief advertisements. I think that the ads are bit long, but not overwhelmingly so. The focus of the podcast is to pack as little as possible whenever you go on a trip or a vacation.

They include an article along with the podcast that outlines the content of the podcast that is given by Craig and Linda, a couple from New Zealand. This podcast is conversational. Craig and Linda include funny stories from their travels as they go through the list of what you should pack and as well as additional advice.

Including personal stories in this podcast made it much more interesting to listen to. The article also gives you something to follow visually, which makes it easier to focus on it. Do you like podcasts that have a lot of antecdotes or do you perfer it when they stick with the main content?

My only problem with this podcast is that it is a podcast. If this was all mountain climbing or desert or forest survival stories or trips. I could get into it a little more. Generally though if I am looking for a list I will most likely turn to the text list instead of listen for them. It just seems simpler. Now if you included awesome stories with references to the equipment, not in a product placement sort of way, you could grab some attention.

What to Pack?

I think that in this case, anecdotes were necessary to make this topic worthy of a podcast (like Navid said, a list is not generally something one listens to, but rather looks at). Personal stories and examples definitely make this podcast more interesting and easier to listen to.
But there are times when I think that anecdotes should be left out as well -- it all depends on the context. For instance, if the podcast is focusing on a specific topic like a book review or instructions how to do something, I think that going off on personal tangents wouldn't benefit the audience, but rather distract them. The podcasters should be aware of what their audience expects and this should determine whether or not they include anecdotes.
