Service Learning Project

Summary:

For this assignment, students will produce texts and undertake activities under the guidance of clients administering four UNCW campus improvement initiatives. The clients are stationed at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and students will act as their on-site representatives. Each student will join one of the initiatives, which have different needs that require various numbers of student assistants. Students will keep in contact with their clients, and clients will provide direction and feedback on student activities. Client feedback will have a direct impact on student grades.

During the course of this project, students will practice working collaboratively to produce real professional materials for an authentic client. In so doing, students will demonstrate their understanding of audience awareness, research, ethos, professionalism, and document design.

DISCLAIMER: All materials created for this project become the exclusive property of the respective campus improvement initiatives. If clients are unable to provide project assessment within the appropriate timeframe, the instructor will make all project grading decisions. The instructor retains final authority over all project and course grading issues.
