The Materials Analysis is a brief report (~3 pages) written from the perspective of the affected corporation's PR team. It explicates why each of your three materials (Press Release, Internal Memo, Video Message) will be successful. The Materials Analysis thus must clarify how these materials appropriately address their audiences and contexts to accomplish their purposes. Think of the Materials Analysis as a report you might have to give to corporate executives that explains how your Press Release, Internal Memo, and Video Message will achieve the desired results. (The Materials Analysis also demonstrates to your instructor why your work is effective and deserving of a high grade.) An effective structure for the Materials Analysis is outlined below: 1. Introduction The introduction should briefly state that in light of the crisis the PR team is proposing the following materials, ex: "In response to the grounding of several JetBlue flights on February 14 due to inclement weather the PR team recommends releasing the following communications." 2. Body The body should contain three sections with headers corresponding to the Press Release, Internal Memo, and Video Message. Each of these sections should clarify how the material will effectively address its audiences and contexts to achieve a purpose. Each section should identify specific features of the material as evidence of its claims. 3. Conclusion The conclusion should briefly restate the report's point and purpose. It should close by looking to the future. Remember that an analysis does not use first person. Its focus should be completely on how the materials function and not on you nor your design process. Each student will submit his or her Materials Analysis as an email attachment with the three materials. All project components are due before class on Monday, Feb. 11. |
