Driving the car of the future?

weekly discussions

This article is about how one family is leasing out a hydrogen car. The company wanted to see how the car held up to daily driving. Do you think this is a major step in everyone having hydrogen cars even though the technology has been there for ten years? Do you think this is cost effective?

Fuel Cells

It's about time this technology is being released to the public. I can't believe Honda is charging the family to pay for the car, though! I don't think they're going to drive it off a cliff just because they're not paying for it. Anyway, I hope that this helps the fuel cell effort, both in popularity and cost effectiveness. I love muscle cars as much as the next guy, but we need to find some alternatives to pollution-spewing gasoline cars.

Hydrogen is Nearly Inexhaustable but There Still May be Problems

I do believe that hydrogen is the next fuel. Since hydrogen is an organic element it is almost inexhaustable. Of course the fact that using hydrogen produces water vapor is a great plus since it does not harm the environment. With a huge number of vehicles using this type of fuel and produceing water vapor, the atmosphere could be affected. With large ammounts of water vapor entering the air, weather patterns could change by increasing humidity.
I do agree that hydrogen is dangerous. I also agree with the article where it claims that it is no more dangerous than gasoline. The example of the Hindenburg is not a good example since it is known as one of the greatest engineering mistakes in history. Putting hydrogen in a blimp is like transporting gasoline in grocery bags. Its not only dangerous its stupid.
Another alternative not mentioned is the use of nitrogen for fuel. In the ag world some farms are able to run off the waste generated by nitrogen coming from livestock waste. The only problem that this has is that it tends to smell bad. I have also heard where cooking grease can be used but this is very expensive.

yes

I truly think that someday everyone will have some kind of car like the hydrogen car. It will be a huge step when they get these things produced.Even though it has been around for 10 years i think that over the past 10 years there has been ALOT of bugs to be tweeked out and the technology will only get better. I think that over time It will be cost efficient.

The Car of the Future:Hydrogen Operated

It is always good to hear that car manufacturers are finding ways to make vehicles operate on sources other than gasoline. The cost of this car is unbelievable, so if Honda were going to make a vehicle like this avialable to the public, the cost would have to be cut trmendously. It is too bad though for advertisment, that the only other past vehicle that has been powered by hydrogen exploded. Though, the familly that has been driving the hydrogen car around town has been using it to do thier daily activities. I do not think this cae is cost effective because not everyone can give a down payment for a million dollar car, plus $500 a month is a lot of money. For those who cannot afford it, it is better to buy a cheaper gasoline operated car.
