cell phone ban urged for teen drivers

weekly discussions

This article discusses the National Transportation Safety Board's concern with the increase of cell phone use while driving, especially among beginning teen drivers. I found it very interesting that researchers found last spring that teens and young adults on the phone while in a driving simulator reacted as slowly as elderly drivers not using a phone. My question is, if more restrictions are made, will people make an effort to stop using their cell phones, and will it really have an effect on the amount of traffic accidents?

This story talks about how musicians in Japan are trying to sign up
with the iTunes Music Store (ITMS) even if their label has not agreed
to do so. For those who don't know, record labels control basically
all aspects of commercial music, and that includes distribution
channels, so artists usually can't just sell their own music any way

Lightning gun?

weekly discussions

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/23/AR2005082301227.html

This article is about an Indiana-based company that is developing non-lethal weaponry including some sort of gun that shoots lightning. Although non-lethal measures sound appealing, there is something odd about the tone of this article and how it presents weapon development as some sort of exciting dream job. Notice how the story begins with Bitar's meeting with "Superman." It then documents his move from a dreary day job to the exciting world of combatting terrorism.
