Week 13: Backend

Xwing328 — Fri, 11/21/2008 - 15:30

Over the course of the last week, we had to deal with a vast array of problems. For starters, no error messages could be displayed on the new server that the client requested we design on, other than a generic error 500. In addition, due to weird Purdue security settings, we were not able to access the database on campus, and were forced to deal with it off campus. After getting frustrated with this and not hearing anything back from the client or service provider about the possibilities of fixing any of this, we moved the site back to its original location on David Auble's server.

During the week, our third partner showed up, so I began briefing him on what we had done so far, and what we had left to do, including the Board of Directors section and Volunteer Management System.

Also throughout the week, I continued work on the jobs section. Aside from a few things, an administrator can now add and delete jobs, and will soon be able to edit the existing jobs. In addition, regular users can view the current jobs. This required a slight restructuring of the existing jobs database table, a new viewJobs.asp page in the root directory, and expansion of the jobs.asp and actions/submitJobs.asp pages in the administrative portal.

Furthermore, I set up a basic style sheet since we don't know when the portal design will be ready for incorporation.

Next up, I will finish debugging the jobs pages now that we have everything back on David's server.
