Week 13 Work Blog

RhythmRunneR — Mon, 11/24/2008 - 01:08

Well, the weekend was a busy one, and in all the excitement I completely forgot to post my weekly work blog on Friday. I apologize for the lateness of this post; hopefully my grade won't be affected too greatly.

This week our group functioned far more efficiently than last. We decided Monday that we would assist one particular group throughout the day then meet near the end of class to tell each other what was going on. I was assigned the task of overseeing the backend coding team, which was diligently working on the portal and dynamic content editor. Since there was little they needed from myself, I still went around to check on other groups. From roaming around I found the design team had finished all the drafts needed for the client to make their decision, so I pushed to have their drafts presented to the client that day. As I will explain later, this effort would pay off in the next few days. On Wednesday the rough draft of our project was due, but because the backend team did not have to deliver anything at that point, I again checked the progress of all groups. I spent the majority of my time investigating the documents and testing group, helping to spell and grammar check their work and determining another client question that needed answering. By Friday, the client had already gotten back to us on which design they liked best. This was much sooner than expected, and really helped get the project moving along. Since we now knew exactly what was to be created, frontend was finally able to get to work. Most of my time was spent helping them create a portal skeleton, which I found was greatly needed by the backend team. I also spent some time that day selecting pictures for the website with the design team, providing them access to a stock photo page in which I still had credits to purchase images with. Beyond that, I simply communicated with other members of my group to make sure everything was alright with our gantt chart, which for the most part was true. As of now, we are all exactly where we should be in terms of progress and should be able to form an excellent website by the end of the semester.
