Due to Thanksgiving break this week was notably less productive than others during the course of this project. Due to a lack of progress of the front-end coding team we were unable to begin work on a change document or make any real adjustments to the design plan. I spent Wednesday reeducating myself on coding in HTML and CSS after being approached by one of the members of the organization team about helping the front-end team get up to speed. After a few Internet tutorials and looking at old code (as well as writing a little of my own to get the rust out) I felt much more comfortable about using CSS for the page layout. By Wednesday evening I was comfortable enough with absolute/relative positioning (once again) to be able to create floating headers and fixed page elements. With a little extra time that night I was able to spend some time on the portal sites (specifically the page source of Purdue’s SIGGRAPH Site) suggested by the back-end coding team in order to gain a better understanding of how they would implement server side coding. This will help when it is time to update my portion of the design plan dedicated to board members, as it will be important to know exactly how the server side technologies will make changing the page and sharing information easier.
