Progress Report

islington — Fri, 12/05/2008 - 11:11

Week 15 has so far been the best in terms of production. Monday I created the banner, logo, and a few of the other link images used on the page. I worked with the front end coders to ensure that the resolution of each image would work. I also communicated with the other designers to make sure we were all on the same page, that we were not overlapping in our work, and so on. We tried a few initial images, and finally settled towards the ones we would use on the main page.

Wednesday it was discovered the floating text front end was using was not really working. So despite a computer crash, I spent most of Wednesday created a PNG of that text for floating banner text. I also retouched the banner that is currently on the first page.

Friday we recieved some feedback form the client and began work on more banners. I continued to refine the banner text to make it more easily visible, something that proved more difficult than I originally had hoped. By the end of the period, I had given the updated images, along with the rest of the design team's banner images, to the front end to be placed on the site.

Our role is largely independent of testing, so we will continue to develop more graphics as we progress. The key to this however, is to provide examples and a few key images for the client, but allow easy methods of replacing them.

Next Monday we would like to bring in a camera and take a picture. The only feedback we received from the client was that they like the hands that I had used as stock imagery on the front page. We cannot use that image, so we are planning on creating our own.
