This wiki is for Tirrell's Group 5 to use during the Service Learning project. This wiki can be used for any purpose that the group wants. It will not be graded in any way.

Getting started in Excel? Does anyone know how to use excel pretty good? Is that an okay program to use for our Gantt Chart?

Excel

I've used excel before but I'm not really familar with it. If someone is really good at using the program let us know. The directions will help us out if no one is that comfortable with it.

Stephanie, I am not fabulous

Stephanie, I am not fabulous at Excel but I am decent, if I need help I have a friend that is amazing and he'll help me, so I'll spruce it up with color and a slightly different design to make it look better! I need some more ideas on activities that we want to accomplish. Also, I'll take out the "group meeting" we'll just communicate via e-mail and this page but mostly lets just communicate on this page! I'll send it out to everyone tomorrow (Friday evening) I am really tired tonight plus it shouldn't take me that long once I have a list of activities/goals we want to accomplish!!!

Gantt Chart Thus Far

Changes to Gnatt Chart

I think the chart you came up with is a good start. I went ahead and put my name down next to the Group Activity section. I would like to do this and I will be writing an email to all of you tonight to fill you in on what else I have been thinking about. Does anybody have any ideas about color coating the chart? I am not great at working with excel so I don't have a lot of ideas. I have attached the chart I changed. Nick

Thanks Nick, that'd be awesome that way our group doesn't have to worry about it! I don't mind making the Gantt Chart look a little nicer (colors,etc) I just need ideas of goals you guys want to accomplish. I'll work on it tomorrow evening (5ish Eastern Standard Time) and send it to you ASAP! It's not due until Midnight (EST) for me! Hope that works. Any ideas are welcome! I'll give it some color and I was thinking about changing it up a little!

I'll send you any ideas today after I look over the chart more. I am working a volleyball camp today, but I will be on here around 5 and after 9:30EST time. If you could put the chart together that would be great because I'm not very good at using excel. I'll send you some ideas and if anything else needs to be done for today let me know.

Add Weeks

One thing that I like what some of the groups from the examples is put weeks at the top. I think this would be a good idea and you can see the examples if you look under the Week 5 Calendar. We could have week 5, 6, 7, 8. That is something I just saw and I will email any other ideas to Rachel later on.

New Changes to chart

I made a few changes that I thought would help. I also sent this in an email to everyone and explained what I changed. If you think the changes I made were not beneficial just let me know and here is another copy of it attached below. Color and weeks still need to be added but I didn't know how to so hopefully Rachel knows.

I like the changes you made to the chart, and I agree all it needs is some color. Unforutunately, I also don't know how to do that. I am about to write an email to all of you summarizing what I will be doing this weekend and what I think we should work on for next week. So check your email later and get back to me on what you think.

whoa i didnt realize everyone was using the wiki page, i had just been reading the emails. sorry about that guys. this week hasnt been the greatest. sorry i wasnt able to contribute more to this weeks assignment.

Gantt Chart

Hey guys! It is 7:47 EST and here's what I have so far. I will check back in about an hour or so to see if anyone has made any furthur updates, etc. It would prolly be easier for you to tell me what you want and let me make the changes. Let me know what you think. Hope you like it!

I think the chart looks great Rachel. Good job. I can't really see anything to change, so I would wait a while and see what the others think and then turn it in. I don't know if you saw my other comment, but I wrote an email to everyone so check it out and get back to me.

Okay as for communication, lets dominately/only use the wiki page so that there is less confusion. Also, if you guys want to have meetings/discuss say this Sunday @ 4 p.m. EST lets use the GRoup Chat that Tirrell set up for us, it's easy and it would be really effective. Secondly, I like the idea to split up the work on the brochure, plus with just two people writing, it would help it sound more uniform. How about one person does the first brochure and another person formats the second brochure interms of layout! That is a hard task to split up since you want it to be uniform/themed throughout the brochure. I don't mind doing the format or writing, I'll say I'll do format.. STEPHANIE - is writing okay with you???????
So everyone should be doing research and thinking of what we want to put into the brochure and then Sunday @ 4 p.m. EST we will discuss what we want to put in it. STEVEN - is this time okay with you over in London????!?!?!
NICK - For the group activity report, we have done a lot of communicating via e-mail, it was a total group effort for the Gantt Chart everyone contributed. I have been doing research and just trying to get a good grasp on the project. Also, I don't think going to the place is going to benefit us that much, save your time. haha Nice thought though! Hope that helps you enough for the group activity report!

Meeting

Writing is fine with me but I don't think I can meet this Sunday at any of those times. I have to work a volleyball camp from 8AM - 10PM EST. So maybe we could work something else out.... I have a break between 12-1:30EST time so if that works for you guys let me know.

Layout/ Design

STEVEN - For the design layout, how about just one of us do the layout and then other one revise/make revisions since I think we only have to make one brochure just make sure it works in both color and gray scale. It would be hard to split up the layout design any other way since we need it to be uniform. Just let me know!

Group Meeting

Hey everyone, since the meeting for today kind of fell through lets set one for tomorrow. We only have a reading to do and the first draft is due on Wed. I have to work until 3:30 so anytime after that would be good. I'm going to write the Activity report in about an hour so, if there is anything else you want me to put in it let me know. Also if you want to see what I wrote for the report let me know and I'll email it to everyone.

Group Meeting/Layout Ideas

How about 6 pm EST. Steven is that too late for you in London??? Also, I'll just be in the chat @ 6 pm EST MONDAY unless I hear otherwise and whoever is there is there. I have attached some research I have gathered as well as layed out the other requirements. There is lots of opportunitities to voluteer, we won't have a problem filling the brochure. I am thinking we should do a tri-fold brochure (easiest)

can you save that file with a different extension? i cant seem to open it, or what program did you use to create it that might help. as far as using word or publisher it doesnt really make a difference, im not really experienced making brochures with either program. so just pick which one you prefer.

Mail-in Form

I don't think this was mentioned above but on the description of the project it says that we need a mail-in form that allows volunteers to enter their names and contact information, how they would like to volunteer (preferably using something like a checkbox), and/or the amount of an enclosed check donation. Just thought I would make sure we also had that included!

Part of Text for Brochure

Here is my part of the text for the brochure. I did the cover, inside 1, and inside 2. Nick is supposed to do the other three panels. I went ahead and did it in word because I'm more familiar with that. I figured you can always paste it over to publisher if needed. Let me know if there is anything that you think needs to be changed or added. Thanks!

Rachel, I changed a few of the things you had, but I hope you like it. Let me know what you guys think, any suggestions are welcome. I'm still waiting on Nick for the second half so this is just the work from what Stephanie had provided. To view the whole thing, shrink it down to 60% instead of print preview. For some reason print preview doesnt include the background.

I really like what you did! It looks awesome. I am going to wait a few hours to hear from Nick, but if I don't I guess I can add in some things and then I'll post it for review ideas! I'll try and post it at 3 or 4 pm EST.

ok, i'll check back then and will respond with my changes as soon as i can. then you can make any final changes and turn it in. if you could convert it to a pdf to turn in that would be awesome, my adobe isnt working at the moment or else i would do it myself.

STeven If I add Nick's part in, would you do the design work because I am not 100% sure how you did some of the stuff you did.
I will double check it to make sure we have everything we need.

The brochure looks great so far. I know you all haven't gotten Nick's part yet so let me know if you need some help. I'm leaving to drive up to Chicago tonight so I"ll check this before I leave and when I get up there to see if anything needs to be done.

I hope Nick is oaky, this isn't like him to not reply back and participate in the group. If we haven't heard from him by Saturday is someone willing to do the Group Activity Report?!?! Steven here ya go! I had to make a lot of changes by moving things around so that it would be in the correct order when they print it off (depending on if they do two pages or double sided, but that's a detail for later) I apologize for messing up what you had , I tried hard not to. Also, please feel free to change whatever, pictures, writings, etc. Also, can you check to make sure it works in grayscale although I think it will. You seem to be best at designing.

Stephanie, Can you help me out by making the detached part that people can send in with money or volunteer infor (you will see I have started it on the document) mine sucks and that way he won't have to do as much. (if not don't worry, but thought it would help out)

I apologize for it taking me so long . I'll check back in a few hours to see what you have and then double check it and submit it by midnight it is 3:45 EST right now!
