Work experience:
1) I have worked at Banco de Crédito del Perú, a bank from the group Credicorp, in Lima from June to August ’02. I worked as an assistant in Banca Privada, under the former manager of that area, Cesar Morante.
2) I have never volunteered for a non profit organization
3) I am currently working at the same bank at Lima, but this time I am conducting an internship in many areas, doing what is called a “stash”. I started in May and will end my internship in August. I am learning from every manager from each area, which are:
a. Banca Corporativa, under Diego Cavero
b. Banca Empresa, under Miguel del Mar
i. Banca Corporativa and Banca Empresa both deal with clients (companies in Peru) directly, but the only difference is that
Corporativa deals with companies that make more than US$15 million a year. In these areas you make their transfers, deal with
their accounts, and make sure that they still make business with the bank.
c. Finanzas Corporativas, under Christian Laub
i. This is where I am currently working at until June 22nd. Here I see how bonds from corporate companies are placed in the
market, as well as merges and acquisitions. I am being taught on how the capital market works as well as how to financially
value a company.
d. Leasing, under Andres Ferrand
i. I don’t know exactly what I will do in this area, except that it deals directly with companies that make leasing deals with the
bank.
e. División de Créditos, under Roberto Andrade.
i. This is where I will spend most of my internship at, this area analyzes companies numerically in order to rate them depending on
their level of risk in the market. If they have more risk, then the bank makes fewer deals with them.
Educational Experience:
I think that the upper level courses that I took last semester have taught me a lot of valuable skills. From all the courses I took, I would choose Financial Mgmt, Marketing Mgmt, Business Stat, and Operations Mgmt to be the ones that have influenced me the most. They all taught me different points of view of the business world, and oriented me towards my lifetime goal, which is to someday own a company. I also learned how to treat people, which in my opinion, is a skill not many people have and is very important in the business world.
I recently received a scholarship from Purdue for the next year due to an application I submitted at the beginning of the spring semester. I also was awarded a small grant since I apply for financial aid each year at Purdue.
Skills:
One of the best skills I possess is that I know how to treat people. I have the ability to talk to people and make them not only understand me, but also understand themselves to help them solve their own problems. Another skill I possess is that I am a fast learner, and this has saved me from hours of studying in the past. I know that both these skills will help me to grow professionally at my future job, which to be honest, I have no idea what will be (since I don’t know in what field to look for work).
I have skills to work with any group of people as long as they’re not closed minded. I don’t like to work with people that are arrogant and feel that they are superior to the group, since this only brings team problems, which leads to less effectiveness. I was born in the US, but moved to Peru when I was less than a year old, so I currently speak Spanish and English (since I went to an American school in Lima) perfectly, and a little bit of French.
I don’t know how to use many elaborate programs as well, but I do know how to use excel, power point, and word, the basic Microsoft programs. When I was young I liked to play with computers and when I messed things up I tried to fix them (with both hardware and software) so I do possess some computer skills. I always fix the computers I have at home. I have never worked with any particular kind of equipment, so I don’t think I have any skills with them. Since my major does not require work with equipment, it is something I have overseen in the last few years.
