This activity was very interesting to me because it helped me understand what employers many times do. We only had to go through about thirty five resumes so I can only imagine going through at least hundreds. It would take a large amount of time to go through and read every detail on the resume. When I was going through the resumes the first thing that I looked at was the organization of the resume. If I felt that it was difficult to read or a little hard to understand I usually just skipped over it. I then looked at the content of the page. Some of the resumes had pretty impressive content which made me more interested in there resume. After looking at that I usually took more care at looking at the whole resume. Doing this process helped me realize how employers do look at resumes because only spending ten to thirty seconds reading them is a very short time. The ones that I thought stood out to me the most were page numbers 5, 9, 22, 29, and 32.
As I said before organization stood out to me the most on these five resumes. They seemed well organized and like the person put time into thinking about the organization and how it would make it easier for the other person to read. They also for the most part had pretty impressive experiences or information that made me interested and curious about them as well. The content on the resume seemed relative and not just like something to fill the page. These five resumes stood out to me the most and would be the ones that I would be the most interested in finding more out.
This activity will help in my revision because I know better understand how to make a good impression quickly. It also shows me that certain content is important to include and how certain information can make a big impact on whether or not your resumes passes the first test.
